| I guess it depends on how you want to define intelligence. If we're talking about the ability to solve the sort of questions posed by IQ tests (which does decline with age), then I'm not sure that having "quaint" views has anything to do with that. Of course, the fact that a person has a lot of intelligence in that narrow sense does not necessarily make them thoughtful. |

Not to mention that the quotient is subject to a certain curve by generation, thanks to the Flynn Effect. Though IQ is arguably a poor metric for measuring somebody's intelligence in any pragmatic sense. |

I'm not sure that the actual neurological decline would be significant enough to be noticeable until very old age for most people anyway. I would bet that a good bit of the seeming "decline in intelligence" that somewhat older people go through is down to them letting any cognitive skills not exercised by their job rust away in front of the TV set. And that's not a fault exclusive to the old, they've just been at it longer.

not till about 70. There is research that shows that we use our brains in different ways. Younger people tend to do everything faster and more efficiently using pure how do you say cpu cycles to work things out while older people have amassed knowledge which they can use to learn making the process not so discernible to an outsider. I guess most would call that wisdom.
I used to think my parents were really smart but my dad was promoted to management and you stop using certain parts of your brain that he did use when he was an engineer that designed things and his ability to learn new concepts has somewhat atrophied at 40.
I still think they are wise, but both my parents have somewhat regressed or I've become smarter. |

Look at Steve Jobs. He dropped out of college, wasnt brilliant by any means in terms of actual programming or creating the OSX. Had no background in engineering. But he basically created one of the most profitable company's in the history of the world. Would you say you're smarter than him |
yeah I would, because I know hopes and dreams don’t cure cancer. |
