Hernan Cattaneo @ Footwork Review

Yea this gongshow is probably off the hook as I type this. However some of us have to work on Saturday morning :(

I got there at around 10:30 with Chris and it was dead. However by 11:30 it had filled up considerably. By 12:30 it was at capacity I presume.

Many of the usual TA prog suspects were present, always good to see y'all. Alot of old faces came out of the woodwork too.

Gera and Andrew had phenomenal opening sets. I always learn something new when watching these guys serve their opening duties. Phenomenal track selection and excellent energy build up.

I got about 45 mins of Hernan's set before I had to peace. I could tell I was gonna be missing something special. I haven't heard prog in footwork in ages. The sound was decent, but with the typical absence of mids and highs that plagues footwork.

Anyways, off to bed. I look forward to hearing the whole story tomorrow.

He tore that place a new . ing hell. Just the way he built up the tension then released it. God damn master. Over and over and over again orgasms because of the build, tension and release. I kinda felt what women felt tonight. Some people don't like this formula but for a 4 hour set you really can't do anything else, especially since you literally have the crowd in the palm of your hands.

Hernan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anyone. I hope this night basically tells people that Toronto has a home for prog.

In terms of the night, I basically echo everything Aaron said.

Recap: from the beginning of the night I was dancing fine on the ledge on the left side near the DJ booth, then some random ing dudes came up beside me literally giving me no room to move. I then drifted a bit through the place, finally settling on the back ledge with Navid/Ben. Stayed there for a while, went to refill my water bottle, had some random dude ask me for some drugs... like not even a specific kind, just "hey man do u sell drugs" (lol off do I really look like a dealer?) then hung out and danced with Jad and Wilbur in the back till we peaced at around 4:10ish. Then we ate some glorious frans.

There was this track he played, with this very distinct oldschool bassline, prolly at around 3:15ish I think?. I would die for an ID. Here are a few of the tunes he played during the night. Alot of Guy J, which is obviously a nice selection :p

(I think so if I remember correctly?)

(I think this was played)

Then these were played...

... literally one after the other. I left after Claire... good track for me to peace to.

And others but I'll link them when I wake up tomorrow :p

P.S. I'm usually terrible with ID's, especially at a place such as Footwork. So apologies if they are wrong.

hernan > sasha? hernan >>>> sasha!! mind was being blown siince the start. just got home now via taxi. music wise from 1030-5 was bomb not sure if any other party will top it tbh.
crowd wise a lot of people doing blow and when the hell did indian ppl take over footwork. in my experience at parties indian people and gay people always bump into me and steal my spot and spill on me and it was getting annoying. was in zombie mode twice for about an hour each time and was waiting for hernan to let me go home but he said no and i gladly stayed till the music cut off. 20$ cover and no washroom guy insisting on taking my change was bomb. from 4 on i thought every track was tintins journey or reaperbahn or russ yallop the journey even though deep down i knew they weren't. some sketchbag puked in the front on or near some girl and it was the same clown who was dancing stupid at digital dreams. the pipes were dripping on me everywhere towards the end i could not escape them. please tell me that set was recorded !

hmmm i thought the mids and highs were alright? I dunno but I had a good time. Proper prog house, some tracks were nuts and got me more so in the zone. Good, mostly clued in crowd but I guess that's the usual for FW.

there are a lot of good Toronto locals, but it's hard to develop a great distinct sound like these two. Esp Gera who is one of few DJs that can rock 100-110bpm sleaze house and that's something very few can pull off properly.

Deffo glad to came early enough to hear Andrew and Gera rock FW

Aye. Two of the greatest locals in Toronto. Both are super humble and extremely versatile.

To compare sasha to cattaneo is Apples to oranges IMO.

Cattaneo is true to the core prog. Sasha has his own unique type of prog sound.

Either way, im pissed I had to miss out on the later part of Hernan's 'journey'
