Advice on my mixing/sound design please :)

Hiya,

I need some advice on my mixing please, specifically:

- are the drums loud enough (esp. the clap/snare and kick) and do they sound good?
- is the pad too loud and does it interfere with the clap/snare (I have sidechained it to the claps with waves c6)?
- is the bass loud enough?
- is the piano loud enough?
- is anything too loud or too faint?
- are the synth arpeggios annoying?
- is the panning balanced?

thanks :)

p.s., sax sounds horrible i know, it was recorded in the wrong key, so has been pitched up, will re-record tomorrow.

-Kick could be louder, maybe a different sample
-Sidechain your bass a bit more
-The main chords lead is a bit too loud
-Your break actually sounds pretty good, turn up the sax, that also sounds really nice

Don't stress too much over this track too, just keep making tracks. You learn something new every time

1) 0:02 to 0:43 ... that part is not very loud... raise it a few db more to the level of the lead
2) 0:43 on... not a lot of space. The noise is great. Perhaps some reaverb on the lead - that will help glue it to the rest of the track.
3) Break - 1:33 way too soft hard to hear - turn it up quite a few db

Honestly you don't need much criticism, just find 5 tracks you like and that are similar to yours. Then put them in the DAW, and A/B or compare your track to those. That way you will notice when things are too low or loud.

Also use a spectral analyzer (for seeing if leads, percs are too loud) an amplitude analyzer (to see if things are too loud in comparison)

Good luck

Okay cool, glad you like the break and I'll work on the kick/pad a little more :)

Sweet, thanks for this. By lead I guess you mean the pad lead, yeah I'll try adding some reverb to that. Haven't heard of an amplitude analyzer before, guess you learn something new every day :)

melody-wise you've got something really nice going. The mixdown lacks balance overall. If you had a solid in you face beat over this thing it would be quite good already. Something Mord Fustang-ish.

its hard to discern what elements are too loud when everyone listening to this is using different speakers headphones etc but in my headphones i feel the chord line (reminds me of a deadmau5 synth) is a bit too loud, takes away from the piano lead which i really like. but ya musically i like it

Did you use an ssd? you need one for sound quality.

What now palm, you dumb bitch
