Anjunadeep 05

this was released today if i'm not mistaken.

anyone heard it?

i like anjunadeep, they are the last bastions of (decent) melodic trancey music.

anjunabeats is terrible these days. guess it has transformed into the commercial arm of their business.

Jody Wisternoff and James Grant have a CD each. no Jaytech this year.

I like the James Grant mix more, solid mix.

As the resident WOW ho, other than a few spots where I felt it stalled in the middle or lost steam at the end, I really enjoyed disc 2 on the first listen. It marks Jody's first commercial mix in 12 years. Quite possibly the DJ compilation of the year for me unless something else grabs me. It is Jodycentric, but he incorporates his sound well with the recent AnjunaDeep catalog, and the remixes/tracks he compiled for the mix range from pretty good to most excellent.

Disc 1 was not bad either but stylistically less interesting to me in sections.

had a quick blast of it.

quite a dramatic shift. a real emphasis on house compared to 04 and the rest of the anjunadeep cd's. guess that's the way they have been going for the past year. much more... serious.

a little 'try hard' if you ask me, like the anjuna team are vying for credibility, or trying to carve out a new place for themselves.

this now leaves a gap between the cheesy of anjunabeats and the now-serious style of anunadeep; deep house.

no real (classy) melodic uplifting stuff anymore.

The label is of less significance to me than the artist(s) involved. Disc 1 gives you a taste of the AnjunaDeep of old, not abundantly but just enough to keep you from getting parched (especially Middleton's track). Disc 2 really delves into this new direction obviously, and the only one who could be said to have been trying too hard are the collaborators themselves, and I can't really describe that as a complaint.

Perhaps the OP should have listed the compilers in the thread subject so that this would get a few more hits. This is a more adventurous trip than Guy J's progathon, and yet there is almost nil interest in comparison.

Deep house, nugarage, bass-driven house, and prog all thrown into the blender is basically what this comp furnishes. There is no shortage of melody on either disc.

I'm an absolutely massive fan of Jody's style and a fan of classic Anjunadeep, so I'm anxiously awaiting receiving my copy.

That's it, I'm posting some mini-mixes of the compilation in hopes of generating some kind of interest (especially for the 20+ year veteran who put together disc 2):

So yea, this toppled Tiesto's Club Life album upon release 2 weeks ago, which I think is a step in the right direction for a wider acceptance of half-decent dance music:

above & beyond - and therefore anjuna have a big following.

i haven't heard what the reaction was, but it is a big departure from anjunadeep 04. it became all serious, all of a sudden.

i'd wouldn't be surprised if the core anjuna fans weren't pleased with this.

if this is the case, then i don't expect 06 to perform as well. this doesn't seem mainstream enough to sell massively.

i also think they have lost their identity with this change - sounds... very generic. they used to have a sound all to themselves. now, they don't.
vinnie97
Generic? I don't necessarily think so...disc 2 is pretty signature for that artist anyway (how could it not with all of his trademark productions ;)), but I wasn't excessively caught up in the AnjunaDeep universe (including these compilations) before (and Jody has been releasing on the label since 2010...so it's not like there wasn't a warning shot or 2 fired, not to mention the announcement that came a year ago as to who would be commandeering). The sound of the label has evolved (also manifested by all the recent single previews/releases), and I hardly find that a bad thing when it's moving in the right direction.

SYSTEM-J
You two are talking straight past each other.
vinnie97
Ah well, maybe this interview will give some background to help bridge the miscommunication:
