Haha, no it's just to do with the sale of my place, hence the no new studio this year. But I am suing, poo.
I've been 'making do' with mine for a couple of years now so once I've bought new everything that budget will get swallowed up pretty quick.
I'm also mostly done with plugins too. I see the value in Omnisphere, Kontakt and the better EQ and dynamics plugs, but other than that I'm pretty much steering towards OTB as much as possible. There's no snobbery there but I've got both here now and I just like OTB better in terms of hands on and sound. I know the sound side of it can be partially down to preference, but my ears can easily tell the difference when it's sitting here in front of me so that's all that really matters. I think a hybrid setup is win all round.
I'd love a big 24 channel desk too, but......... |

I've been keeping an eye on eBay, Gearslutz, VSE, craigslist, etc. and I haven't seen many Andromedas sell for <$3.5K in the past year or so. There are a few of them on eBay now and the buy-it-now prices are $4,500-5,600. A bit ridiculous.

Not that I'd really want to go back to a mixer (nor do I have the space anymore), but this teaser for the new Avid S6 looks cool.

fully happy, since i've got the Cirklon
stopped making daw based now only make Cirklon based music, it's a revelation ;)
2 potential gear swaps
- one synth for Nord 4R
- P08 for P12 but not needed when i get the 4R as i love the brassy sounds of the P08, just wanted a multivoice synth with a bit more bite |

I'm not even sure what that is yet, it looks like it could be a follow up to the C|24 or perhaps competition for the Raven? It could be little more than a fancy midi controller. I'm not saying they're not useful, but I'd happily sacrifice blinking lights for a proper multi channel analogue signal path (I know, I know).
One thing that's struck me over the last couple of years is that I'm cool with arranging in a DAW, it's clearly one of the most appealing benefits of using a DAW setup compared to the way we used to have to do it, but I despise mixing on a computer. I tend to mix as I go and then just get bored.
The other consideration is that I know for a fact that my ears work better when I'm not staring at a screen. ;)
Maybe I'll compromise and get an MC Mix/Control setup and some decent multi channel converters. |

Ok, I'll bite, but don't get the question? Define "better" ? from what angle are you taking this?
Read into the Cirklon, watch some video's and you'll learn soon enough what's dfferent.
One of the first differences is that you're no longer able to just play aligned timestrected loops on your computers DAW.
No distraction by software, no endless possibilities etc etc.
If the result is "better" is in the eye of the beholder.
At least it's a lot more efficiënt and fulfilling for me. |

yeah this whole thing where you have to look at the screen when mixing - not good.
I tried the ipad route but something about the touchscreen, its just not the same as a physical knob/fader - i kinda ended up concentrating too much on the touchscreen so was back to that problem again of not listening
would love to get a big -off hardware mixer/controller but not sure i have the space (or could justify the expense) |
