Hi there.

Im doing a little report on Canada. Im supposed to introduce a certain part of canada, and give som info about geography and maybe cultural issues.

I know there is a great deal of canadians here. So I thought you maybe could give me some tips about what's worth focusing on.
I know that Jay Miron (bmx) is from canada, and I could also focus on Terrance and Phillips. But thats just the "fictional" part. I should include som relevant stuff about canada... Society problems etc, are here any great Canadian companies I could write about?

Im not asking you to do the report for me, Im just looking for tips from people that have some interesting info.

Thanks
torontotrance

Statistics Canada will tell you everything.....we keep great stats here

Canada has 2 very big problems....the emerging of organized crime and the problem with quebec and them wanting to separate from canada (which will probably never be resolved

famous canadians.....we have many

Pierre Trudeau, Mordecai Richler, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Donald Sutherland, Shalow Harlow, Linda Evanglista, Celine Dion (HAS BEEN IMO)and canada's biggest and most popular band is the tragically hip.

Canadian Companies - Bombardier, Nortel (sigh!), BCE, Royal Bank, Bank of Montreal, Toronto Dominion Bank, Ballard Power.

Ah, Thanks ALOT, torontotrance. That was just the kind of info i was looking for.

Thank you very much.

Also, I apologize if it's lame of me to ask you for help with my report.

I'm almost completely blank when it comes to this region.
So I'm very grateful for that you bear with me.

Again, Thanks alot!

How could you forget one simple fact - we have Avril! Some people (who shall remain nameless) seem to be a little infatuated with her around here. *Trance-Canada* *cough**cough* *DuMonde TrAnCeR* *ahem*.

famous bands? Canada's has tons such as Swollen members/Barnaked ladies/sum 41/not by choice/nickelback/Avril Lavigne/baby blue sound crew/default/nelly furtado/remy shand/weezer there problay lot's more big issue in Canada now is legalizing weed. When I came to Canada 3 years ago I noticed lot's of Canadains life day by day and diffrence between rich and poor is bigger then where i'm from Holland but Canada is one of the greatest countries in the world and everybody in Canada should be happy to live in a country like Canada.

Another big social issue in Canada is sovereignty. We try like hell to keep American culture out of our country...

hmm.. wow, the population has grown 10 millions since my HS.... How evil :(

More evil is the fact that I cannot spell the name of the new territory (that is also fairly recent)...

Sigh...

ok :)

Montreal is by definition THE REAL CANADIAN city , because it's half french half english , everything is in both languages , everybody (or almost) speaks both , when you go to federal or provincial offices you get served in both languages .

the rest of Quebec is 100% french , and the rest of Canada is 100% english , which means no one will bother his ass to speak in english with you in Quebec , and no one will bother his ass too to speak french with you in Ontario or any other province .

i think there's the canadian heritage , and the quebecker heritage . altho it's the same "north-american culture" everywhere , the traditions and values in Quebec are very very different from those in the other provinces .

for example you will never see a Quebecker telling you : hi , my name is Mr. Tremblay and i'm Canadian .

when i just moved here , i was always against the idea of separating Quebec from the rest of Canada , but after living a couple of months and facing both the cultures , i think the separation is necessary ONLY IF MONTREAL STAYS IN CANADA , otherwise it won't be possible . i know it sounds weird but trust me the feeling you get here is : i live in Quebec not i live in Canada :)
