Looking forward to your next mix btw!

Interestingly enough, I'm planning a mix series that takes progpsy in the opposite direction. I'll showcase those tracks next year :)

Also, for my next syndicated mix, depending on when we have the genre challenge it'll probably be in December. Should be an epic one, stay tuned ;)

Dark prog, Trippy prog, Or not very melodic prog? Obviously none of those are real genres apart from maybe dark prog though. I'm just interested to hear what the opposite of this would be.

Haven't forgotten about this, Zip. I reckon it'll be the perfect soundtrack for the train over to Manchester before Illuminaughty this Saturday.

Just listened to this. I'm probably biased but:

It sounded very similar to Mystic Energy and I think I love you because I've been waiting for a mix similar to that since Mystic Energy came out. The wait has been worth it to be honest!

I thought the quite obvious key changes (it's psy trance, you can spot that from a mile away) weren't jarring; in fact they helped progress the mix. I find in psy-trance sets nowadays there are a ton of absolutely retarded transitions, where you can obviously tell Track B should not be mixed into Track A. However, in this mix, when you were progressing from one key to another, it worked to develop the mix and push it foward rather than backwards. Kudos. And, because I'm an , I have to say something that I found rather weird: the transition at 60 mins. But that's all.

Overall brilliant work. Some real great sets on the first page in the DJ forums for once.

Hell yeah! Have a great time, I know that is going to be badass like always. Hope this sets you up proper.

That was my main goal with this set, honestly. I knew I probably couldn't find tracks as legendary as Edge Traversal, Galactic Mantra and whatever that Krunch track was at the end, but I was going to give it my best shot. Everything that I found that was worthy of playing made it into this set, but it was the closest I could get. I think the title Magic Treasure is actually somewhat proper considering the melodies, I think it's somewhat fitting.

Yep, I generally don't key my tracks because it's really hard to match energy, progress, and match keys at the same time. Maybe if I played a set from all the tracks in my library I could pull that off, but not this time :p Nah, not an at all for pointing out that transition, I clearly waited too late for that one. I did kinda have a problem with the low end on some of these transitions where it causes some distortion on bigger systems, but hopefully won't be noticeable to the average listener.

Indeed! And where is your mix? Back in Canada I presume? :p

Bumping this one more time. Already started prepping for my final mix of the year.

Jack, you're dragging your feet! :p Has illuminaughty already happened?

Yes, I have listened. We were talking about it in the pub before Illuminaughty, actually, and then Jon did play a couple of tracks from this in his warm-up set on the night. It just slipped my mind somewhat in the chaos that followed.

I enjoyed it a lot. The quality of the music was very high. I'd agree that the material isn't really "psychedelic" apart from the customary heavy basslines, and so it was nice to hear some straight-up trance that isn't from the usual J00F-hammered suspects. I don't think the mixing was as seamless as some people are making out but it did the job perfectly fine, and the flow was smooth. It didn't feel the set had much of a structure in particular (although maybe repeat listens will reveal one), but sometimes it's fine to just bash out 80 minutes of good music with no pauses. I imagine a lot of these tracks are going straight into the crates of like-minded DJs (you've already bolstered Jon's), which is reward for the obvious effort that went into digging these out.

Woah, that's awesome. I'm glad Jon found a few of these that he liked enough to play out! The fact that I found something he can use in his crates is high enough praise as it is! :)

Yeah it definitely rides that line, although all of these were found under the Psy-Trance genre section of beatport. All of them. Which is kinda weird when they are all put together in one mix and they sound more like regular trance than psytrance.

Yeah, I tried to caution everyone to not give the mixing such kudos, because it might sound seamless if you aren't really giving your full attention, but some of the transitions are highly noticeable if you have the volume turned up. As far as the flow, you definitely have a point. I built up to the Vibrasphere track somewhat, then dropped off a bit until the last quarter where I turned up the energy a tad. Mystic Energy had obvious spacing with its signature tracks, but that's not quite the case here. More consistent with this one I suppose.

That's good to hear if that's what happens. I hope people re-use these tracks! They are definitely worth playing out.

Thanks for the listen! :D Now onto my last mix of the year, this one is going to be a bruiser.

Don't give me too much credit mate, I'm always nicking tunes from the good trance DJs on this forum, and I often look to your sets!

I'll post my set up shortly. The tune in question was Alter Nature - Bursting With Life, and it was the moment that seemed to take the dance floor from gently nodding to the beat to full blown dancing. By the time it broke down the number of people there seemed to triple! Absolutely brilliant track!

I heard your set dude!!! You played Funk Truck, Magnus, Alter Nature, and Liquid Soul - Exposed, in such a fluid set (all of which I've played before :p) to where I would have absolutely been losing my mind on the dance floor. Wicked. I'm glad I can provide a tad bit of inspiration for the popular trance DJ's on the other side of the planet.

I never play out. Nobody in my region appreciates the music that I spin. I wish they did. If I got a set in your area, I'd hope I got some people who could understand what I was trying to do. Everyone here only cares about the next drop in the latest dubstep track. :(

Great mixes deserve bumps!

I've listened at work so can't crank it up too high but I really liked what I heard. Personally I find with this genre it doesn't take much for a track to be a generic bassfest but these tracks, particularly the first half that I was able to pay most attention to, are really quite excellent indeed.

Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed it :) Don't you still fly planes?
