Output Brooklyn

Output Brooklyn is where it’s at.
Although it is a relatively new venue, in my opinion it is one of the top destinations for DJs in North America. (While we’re on that topic, I would say Stereo - Montreal, Story - Miami, Sound -Los Angeles and Beta - Denver are some of the top places where DJs want to play [outside of the mainstays]).
Nicolas Matar is doing a tremendous job in New York with this venue and Cielo (which just celebrated 10 years of success). Output is a minimally themed spot with amazing sound. No cameras or videos allowed. No VIP section or table service. Every customer is equal. This isn’t a place where you Instagram; you live in the moment right then and there.
The staff is customer service oriented – which is missing at a lot of clubs. The bouncers set the expectations at the door. Follow the rules of the club and you’re fine. Break the community spirit and don’t be surprised if you are asked to leave.
The sound: I’m impressed with this Funktion One. Some places in Toronto have components of a Funktion One and it sounds great in certain spots, whereas if you move to other areas of those clubs, the sound quality diminishes. At Output the whole club is fully equipped with Funktion One and properly configured for the room. We stood in front of the stacks for Tale of Us Saturday and Victor Calderone Sunday, and while the sound was loud, there was no distortion and best of all no ringing ears the next day!
Flyers: The flyers are minimally inspired. No cliché pictures of DJs with sunglasses on staring into space. No cluttering of promoter logos on the flyer when the focus should be on the venue and the artist. Flyers done the right way in my opinion.
Attention to detail: It’s the little things that make Output work. From selling sunglasses in a vending machine, to the breathtaking patio views of Manhattan, to the trippy velvet cloth hanging from the main hallway to the Panther Room; these little nuances make the club stand out. Equipped with a full on fire place and crazy couches, the Panther Room is like a mini club inside Output. The thing that stood out most for me was the padding on the ceiling of the stairs. For tall guys, who constantly have to worry about smacking their head at a club, this is a godsend. With Output, instead of painting a warning, they pad it, so even if you hit your head it won’t be concussion city.
If you ever get the chance to check out your favorite DJ at Output, do it! |

| Great review! I've been dying to check this club out for months now. I'm hoping in 2014! |

Music to my ears and the top of my head.
Damn low ceilings to hell! |

We used to have these kind of spaces in Toronto, too. Now we're blessed with cookie-cutter venues owned by people who would rather toe the safe and comfortable line than actually endeavour to break the mold.
At Output, I'll bet there's actual room on the floor to dance, isn't there? Such a novel concept!

solid write up
for years nyc used to be one of the world destinations for dj's and clubbers to check out, but the last few years nyc did not have a proper mega club. the scene became more focused on bringing it back to smaller rooms and intimate settings.
now output isent a huge mega club. it has the feeling and the repuation so far of what a huge mega club in nyc used to be like. very music driven
there are 2 new big rooms opening up also in nyc this fall
sankeys and space nyc. lets hope they have the same vibe, feeling and vision of what a proper big room should be
but yes i strongly suggest if anyone visits nyc than def check output. nothing but quality |

| It sounds like a rave den - the kind that I'd totally love to be in for a night. |

It's a slap in the face to put Story on there. While the place is nice, its just another typical VIP service club in Miami. The only thing remotely good about it is its Saturday nights which are curated by the Link/MiamiRebels crew. |
