i had the same questions in my mind before buying my PS2 except i never thought of getting the gamecube because it's not adult oriented (u'll never get games like GTA3 or MGS2 on it)

basically it was PS2 vs. XBOX

i choosed PS2 because of the diversity of the games , besides the xbox is dying soon

I used to work at a game store and I got that question quite abit, and everytime I answered (truthfully) "Halo is the only thing selling Xbox's" I dont know how true that is today, but this wasnt that long ago. So I'd put my money on ps2.

GameCube - PS2 - Halo machine... err, I mean, Xbox.

The GameCube's the best because it has Nintendo games on it, and plenty of other things too. 'Mature' games like GTA3 (GTA mature? Nahhh) won't appear on it, because GTA is on PS2-only, but there are plenty of adult games. Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness being two.

Anyway, everyone always gets a PS2 no matter if the other consoles are infinately better. So just buy one.

yeah just buy a PS2 , u won't regret it , the other consoles might die in 3 or 4 years (like the DC)

Personally id go with the xbox. Iv had the conversation with alot of people. The only reason to get a ps2 is if you need 1000 games really fast. The ps2 is already "maxed out" your not gonna see anything new and groundbreaking on it. Yes new games will come out but most developers are doing multi platform now anyway. Xbox on the other hand is a better machine tech wise. Its hardware beats all systems hands down. Its also still in its first generation, coming up on second. The machine has a long time left to go, developers have barly scratched the surface on what it can do. Ill admit there isnt that many must have games out as of yet, but there are many good ones. Also you hear about a little thing called xbox live? Microsofts online plan is great. Many people have a grudge against microsoft. Thats what makes them not like the machine, without giving it a chance. Microsoft knows what gamers want and they give it to them. They have done nothing but good with this machine. Also people that say its going to die are not informed. They are not gonna pack up like sega did with the dreamcast. No matter how good or bad the machine does, microsoft is backing it 100% for a minimum of 5 years. that means there will be an xbox2 .In short of you want a 100 games really fast get a ps2, if you want a future grab an xbox.
Upcoming things to look for on the big green beast ::
MechAssult
Splinter Cell
Unreal Championship
Shenmue II
Phantom Crash
Fable (project EGO)
Steel Battallion
Brute Force
Panzer Dragoon Orta
lots more just what i could think of off the top
biznology
Upcoming games never coming out on xbox:
-Gta: Vice City
-Gran Turismo 4, supposedly mind blowing...i doubt the ps2 is completely maxed out, look how long the psx lasted, and the graphical difference between what, the 5+ generations...

and those 2 are enough to keep me happy. no one can say which is better right now, frankly the xbox is still struggling. maybe they can pull a sony and make the thing a viable commodity but id put my money on GC or ps2 until i drop $$ on a vcr sized pseudo computer that wont even play dvds without an extra purchase. late|

Remember this simple equation when buying a system:

Gameplay > Graphics ;)

(psst, I recommend the PS2)

As for this game Steel Battallion that all the XBox fanboys are going on about...it's being developed for the PS2 also. I don't really see what all the hype is about it, yes it is a good looking game and apparently the gameplay is great also...but you have to spend $200 just to play it! I'm sorry but no matter how good a game is I'm not spending over $80 for it (I remember buying Super Mario 64 for this amount when it released). $200 is a bit much and there are no other games in the plans that use the controller that Steel Battallion uses.

Btw Frost, you have got to be one of the first XBox fanboys I've seen that has not mentioned the word "Halo" in every other sentence :stongue:

True sony bought the rights to the GTA franchise for the next 4 years. As for GT4 i havnt seen anything on it yet, ill admit that it is a good series though, and i doubt that 4 will disapoint. As far as exclusive titles the box's list is growing, specially with the purchase of RARE. Guess it all depends on what your into. Although there is nothing to compete against GTA, there is SEGA GT 2002 if your into the GT series. Its not quite in depth as far as tuning goes, but does the trick. Has afew extras that are nice (drag racing) and is LIVE compatable, extra tracks and cars will be available for download through the service, or add on disks. Speaking of downloads, The built in HD is a big plus over the ps2. The ability to rip your own music and play it in game is champ. Also true DD 5.1 sound in games is crushal for people with nice systems. 16x9 support and 480p up to 1080i for those with HD TVs. About the DVD thing, the playback kit is now included in the box, the gamecube cant even play dvds. Anyway i dont have anything against any of the systems or anything i just think the X is the way to go. Again all depends on what your into i guess, just letting you know whats available.

GT3 was supposed to have drag racing but it was cut for the final release

Sure the ability to rip your own music from CDs is nice...too bad you can't rip from CD-R though  All of my trance is on CD-R since it's very hard to find stuff around here...so the option is basically useless.

As far as steel battallion goes. Its just hyped by the hardcore mech gamers (mech commander/worrior fans) The price is crazy to me also. The reason everyone is all hot over it, is the hardcore simulation it brings. Its the closest thing to piloting a mech that has been made. Its a true hardcore gamers game, save games being wiped out if you dont eject before you are killed, savage controlls, its what hardcore mech fans have been waiting for. Personally i cant warrent spending that much on a game so im not gonna pick it up, unless i somhow have a sudden influx of cash. Also no matter how well this does, they are making a part 2 that will use the controller so your not totally getting reemed.

IF i am a fanboy i would consider myself a computer fanboy. Im not swayed one way or the other as far as the machines go. They all have good and bad points, but at the end of it all imo the box comes out on top. As far as halo goes its a good game, I just think FPS belong on a computer. ITs by no means the best game ever made for sure, god after a while you cant tell if your going backwards or forwards in some of those levels.
