he bro hugs the girl. What a twat. Just noticed that this is an american thing. I guess a vicii makes sense considering people's opinion on what is good is pretty much dictated by flier explaining how long levels was on the beatport charts.

I don't like him, but you can't say he's not succesful
DJ RANN
Man, I'm agreeing with everything that Richie is putting out, especially about Wake me up being country pop and how his music is irrelevant.

I am actively in to EDM and I have thankfully never heard any of the other songs (other than Levels and WMU) by him mentioned in this thread.

Those youtube views are utterly meaningless; there's people out there that are paid to make scripts so a network of computers sitting there refreshing the screen on a particular track just to bump the numbers. I know this first hand as a mate of mine works at a school and needed a temp bump in his site stats so we set all 49 computers to his site with 5 second refresh and left it on over the weekend. We managed to get over 1.4 million fake hits in that short period.

If we'd have left it running for a week or two, we're talking in excess of 40m hits.

I'm not saying he isn't popular. People are sheep, and will follow what they are spoon fed, but don't confuse that meal for talent.

I know I've mentioned it before but Jonathan King (ex radio one DJ, UK TV personality and later, known and proud pedophile (I'm not making this up)) did this great expose on the mainstream music industry in a the mid 90's;

He got a famous politician's daughter - (Edwina Curry - yes, she of the great salmonella scare of 1988) - and created a completely fake press push for her pop career and debut single.

He managed to secure a minimum of a #2 slot on the UK charts, by PR'ing it to all the big retailers to place orders and guaranteeing prime time airplay on all the major radio stations.

The only problem?

The song didn't exist. Nothing had ever been recorded.

Now that was in the days when you actually went out and bought a tangible product, like a CD or record.

Imagine how ing easy it is if you're connected to manipulate "success" in today's media.

That is Avicii. I remember this girl, typical LA/NY 20something I knew, coming up to me going "I love this new house music, thanks avicii for creating it!".

Aside from wanting all civilization to end at that very moment, it dawned on me that nearly 30 years of dance music had manage to pass these people by until it was dumbed down enough for these smaller and simpler molecules to pass through their blood brain barrier.

Avicii winning as an "artist" is like McDonald's winning as a restaurant.

his success is financial. And given at what cost , i don't find that in any way the sort of success one would aspire to. Monsanto made money. His crap is agent orange for art. I mean write down what he has done. Other than the $$$ , it is a very very short list of achievements.

I don't know him as a person. so i won't even say i don't like him. I have no issue expressing my views on the terrible noise he has added.

You're right, I should nuance there, I don't like his work. As I don't know him personally either.
But the masses sheep dig it and he's living the EDM dream (even with his cracked Sylenth copy on the SoundOnSound docu :D )
He did what many of us here aspire.

At the end of the day, even if his team buys:
YouTube hits
soundcloud plays
Facebook likes
twitter followers
Global Airplay on every Nationwide radiostation in the world
It gets him gigs and he is cashing
even if it's all artificial pooh, the money in the end is real.

right, but not everyone is motivated by money. Losing your integrity and being known as a oily slimy is real as well. I did a little visualization exercise and i wanted to kill myself. I mean you think Bob Rock sleeps , let me rephrase, do you think a sober bob rock could sleep at night knowing that st anger was his doing.

My thoughts exactly! at the end of the day he earns a lot of money and he will keep earning a lot of money for the next several years.
From now on he can just hire ghost producers to make his tunes so he could sustain the cash flow for a long period of time while he is marrying a Kardashian or whatever it is that Swedish people do when they are rich and bored.

He is living the dream and millions adore him, i bet he can get a lot of punani too, even with his white mug:) so a hundred old TAs disrespect him, who cares?
Looney4Clooney
ok, but i have money. so i don't really see the upside given his complexion and choice of clothing. and everyone says it but money makes you happy till about 100 000. The effect is lost after that. Being poor sucks but being really rich, it is a double edge sword that is hard to live ith unless you enjoy being lonely and liked for all the wrong reasons.

if money is your thing, i mean there are a million ways to make money. IF money is your end goal, well it is a pretty easy goal if you live in a first world country.

Not that easy apparently, and besides it's about the money AND fame.

Looney4Clooney
for people that are weak in character and require constant adulation. The people that crave the fame have personality disorders. They never get enough, and just like money, it doesn't do anything for your happiness. Have a conversation with someone that is famous , someone that is well grounded and they will tell that the fame is just part of the territory. They don't like it, they understand it is what they signed up for and put up with it, It might be cool when you 18 and have always been ignored by the fairer sex. So , even if this is your case, the money and fame won't fix the actual problem.

i'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you are in your teens. I can empathize that it might be alluring for someone that could never get similar respect by who they are but somehow knowing this and being fine with it , i think being a complete douche is a prerequisite,

Never said it was about the fame FOR ME, i'll just take that 100K per show thanx:)

But for most people fame IS a big deal, just look at those massive lines for the tryouts of any reality show out there at any country for the last decade.

Oh and RANN, i thought about it and if you buy 20 mil' views you gonna get another 80 mil' views from actual people.
If you have 20 mil' views your video will be on top of YT and people will click it just because it has that many views, so i don't think he bought most of his views.
