Watches (pg. 4)

Price isn't always indicative of quality/longevity. I have a 23 year old casio watch I got as a kid. It works the same as the day it was new and keeps accurate time. I've bought more expensive watches recently that have malfunctioned or broke with in a year.

If you look inside digital watches 10 cent chip attached to a lcd display. The most likely thing to fail is anything that is mechanical such as button or the band. The compexity of high end mechanical watches would be more susceptibile to failure.

There is also diminishing returns to most luxury items. Is 1k watch 10x better than a 100, does a platinum band last longer than stainless steel?

I'm shocked an ordinary person would spend that much but if that's what gives you happiness who am I to judge.

I would never buy a watch over $500, especially knowing that even a $25 Casio probably is more accurate. Also it wouldn't be a disaster if it got lost.

I guess I shouldn't have laughed when my financial planner suggested I diversify my porfolio to include Rolex watches.

my friend is a vintage collector, i'm talking some that are going for well over 20k that look simple but because of the year, the materials it was made of, and the name..originally cost $2k, maybe 4 brand new

i think the point of a watch is more the aesthetic considering well phones and . It is jewelry. A way to look sharp without looking gay or black. So, i think spending less than 500$ a little silly unless you skydive or do things that need a watch. Otherwise , well , why the are you wearing a watch would enter most people's mind. Unless you have the casio calculator one and it is not a reissue.

It's not about bringing me happiness. It's an accessory. It's the one acceptable piece of jewelry for a man to wear. I'm a financial advisor and wear suits everyday so both people in the office and high net worth clients notice.

That plus it's annoying to take out your cell phone every time you need the time. Plus it's obvious as hell. You can subtly check the time on a watch without screaming "hey look I'm checking the time because you're boring me or I have more important things to do."

stay away from the big names and i'm sure you will find something that looks nice and isn't recognizable as well lets face it cheap in terms of a watch.

That's why I went for the Tissot. Watch people will know what it is, and it looks very classic. The first thing I think when I see a Rolex on someone's arm is it's either fake or they bought it used. I'd be much more impressed by an Omega or Breitling. After researching it I found Tissot and Omega are made by the same company too.

That's actually a good reason that makes sense to me. But I still can be indignant over Stu. :p over compensation...

Lol I'm now getting Swiss watch ads in my browser.
