I chuckled when I read "Romantic non-Germanic" languages though.
"OH, NO! The English language is being contaminated by the impure influence of Spanish, as opposed to French... which comes from the same source and has provided nearly a third of all entries in any given English dictionary! ENGLISH IS BEING ANNIHILATED!" :p
(For the record, all words in italic came directly from a Romance language... which comes to show how hilarious his panic is :D) |

What I don't understand is the particular ire against Romance languages. Would it be okay with him if the linguistic landscape was being transformed by Dutch and Swedish immigrants instead?

More than it already has!? You guys can't conjugate the verb to be without giving the Nordic influence away :p
