I'm looking to get an external sound card for my PC. One with excellent quality that is good for music production and can play back DAW audio with no problems. |

Are you looking for USB or FireWire? I've got a MOTU 24 I/O, but that requires a PCI card. It hasn't given me any crazy issues on my Windows 7 machine yet.
For FireWire, I've used the MOTU Ultralite (first version) and it was pretty alright. |

don't get firewire. The difference between bad and good enough that you will never really notice is about 150$. So in terms of quality, i would be more worried about drivers that work well. The difference between a 2000$ and a 300# interface if you aren't using inputs is rather small. Probably imperceptible in any normal conditions you probably have in your room. |

You mean between $2,000 and $500. I remember getting a motu $549 interface over a M-Audio $300 interface and the audio difference was big. |

My next interface will be a Focusrite Scarlett personally. Their entry level model, the 2i2, should be fine for you. |

i think the point is that you didn't have them side by side, you probably don't have great ears or a good room and the difference if you can hear it , is just a difference you will think is better because you spent more money. It is especially the case for loud music were distortion and the like are just too hard to hear over the loud signal. |

Clay, why is that? I am curious. I am looking into one as well. Granted, I will be using it with headphones, senn hd 600 to be exact.
I have had NUMEROUS confirmations that the tag team is the best route to go.
I might as well add that my setup would be because of the inability to sound treat my room |
