2005 was directionless as - you had the last vestiges of progressive house and breaks and the initial rumblings of electro and proto-dubstep. I still reckon 2006 and 7 were much worse than 2005.

I think Bay Of Figs sums up all that was wrong in 2006 in one track.

Dunno why mcprog got bum rap on TA many years ago, pretty great tunes. Then again I am pretty biased towards it, I make it myself sometimes. Then again, I also think this thread is pretty silly and pretentious; so dont mind me.

Yeah you see I actually really liked this stuff... the Benz & MD, Kosmas Epsilon, Andy Moor type sound, even though it always got a bad rap. It's certainly a lot more listenable than that awful Erotic Discourse track above...

Most of the bashing came from people who'd been listening to actual progressive and saw it as a dilution, whereas most of the nostalgia now comes from people who were listening to laser trance at the time.

Oh yeah, no question is that it's watered down and easily digestible compared to the prog that came before it, but it's still got great production values and has some nice melodies and vibes; much more than I can say for some of the brash tech house and minimal tunes from that era.

As I remember it, the whole anti-McProg thing on TA was a bit earlier than minimal's boom, probably 2004-5 when TA was still dominated by Trance vs Progressive feuds. I remember THIS Mixmag cover CD talking excitedly about the fresh new sound of minimal techno that was set to explode, and that was September 2005. I think the McProg arguments dried up when minimal exploded in 2006 - all trance fans could agree they hated minimal a lot more.
