Was 2005 the worst year for music of the past decade? (pg. 4)

As I remember it, the whole anti-McProg thing on TA was a bit earlier than minimal's boom, probably 2004-5 when TA was still dominated by Trance vs Progressive feuds. I remember THIS Mixmag cover CD talking excitedly about the fresh new sound of minimal techno that was set to explode, and that was September 2005. I think the McProg arguments dried up when minimal exploded in 2006 - all trance fans could agree they hated minimal a lot more. |
I agree, up until the minimal trend mcprog was loathed among many here on TA. You could also say that the minimal trend made people forget the hatred against mcprog. |

I don't think 2005 was that bad of a year. I thought 06 and 07 was worse, especially when the old prog artists started making electroprog, most of that was rubbish. I do remember that my interest for trance that year began to fade away, and I turned more towards house and breaks. I think the only 3 tracks I still play intermittently from that year are Hydroid - Blue Tubes (Ava Mea Remix), Keo - Close Enough (Noel Sanger Remix) and David West - Envy. Ahh Envy, that was like some proto-glitch hop right there. :tongue2
I also give 05 props for one of the best chill-out tracks I ever heard. This still gets played on my mp3 player, especially after a long day of work and a much needed reload on the bong.

The conclusion to one of the more notable releases of 2005, Graham's debut album under his Space Manoeuvres alias (and I think the last time anything was ever produced and released under said alias). Granted, the best tracks on the album are previously released material (with the wonderful exception of 'The Seventh Planet'), but it was still the official and definitive Space Manoeuvres collection.
That said, I'm unclear as to why the above track was billed as a Leama & Moor remix of 'The Seventh Planet,' when there is no original, and with the remix just being a chillout remix of 'Stage One.' Whatever. Leama & Moor never disappoint(ed). |

Digweed's edition for Fabric was also one of the better releases of that year, and really seemed to cement the direction his sound and career would take up until this very day (as little seems to have changed, since):

1. Pete Moss Strive To Live (16b Mix)
2. Adam Johnson Traber
3. Repair Forgive + Forget (Richard Davis Remix)
4. DJ RaSoul True Science
5. The Glass Wont Bother Me (20:20 Mix)
6. Billy Dalessandro In The Dark
7. Bobby Peru Venom
8. Martin Solveig Rocking Music (Martin Solveig Dub)
9. Slam Lie To Me (Freestyle Man Thirsty Monk Dub)
10. Angel Alanis Knob Job
11. Infusion Better World (Josh Wink Mix)
12. Superpitcher Happiness (Michael Mayer Mix)
13. Joel Mull Emico
14. Matrix and Danny J Vertigo (Goldtrix Remix)
You should be able to pick up a second hand copy on the cheap by now, eh Syk? :toothless |

I don't mean to multi-post, but I also don't wish to cram multiple cover art and tracklistings into a single post, so:
Hernan Cattaneo's best work, and one of the best editions for the Renaissance: Masters series was released in 2005: Renaissance, Masters: Vol. 2:

4. Roman S - Horn
5. Green Thumb vs. Jv - Grand Theft Vinyl (Jv Mix)
6. Hawaii - Pure (Mtrazz mix)
7. Patrick Turner/ Chris J - Machine Life
8. Harry Peat - Afrodizziac (Asad Rivsi Mix)
9. Morel - If You Love Me (Dean Coleman Dub)
10. Innerstate - Sidewinder (Mike Hiratzka Remix)

Also, it may not be on-theme, but the first Nine Inch Nails album in six years was released in 2005, 'With Teeth' (and a damn fine follow-up, at that). |

Looking at the tracklist of the CD makes the name choice rather obvious.
While I enjoy a lot of the stuff you've posted, the point is that very little of it is considered "classic", same with a lot of the stuff posted in this thread. |

Okay, yeah, I'm seeing it now, but I still think billing a remix that implies a non-existent original does more to confuse than it does to fully flesh out a theme or concept within the album. I also don't think Sykonee is looking for classics inasmuch as he's trying to determine if 2005 was as utterly abysmal as he's apparently remembering, and you don't need to cite a string of classics in order to reach 'really wasn't that bad' status.
In any case, I have a feeling this thread would be a lot more manageable if Involver's release date was pushed back by only a couple of months. |

This was an awesome album, perhaps the last top-tier prog compilation to get released. That Micah feat. Jaidene Veda track is gorgeous, Funky Summa is a classic, and I will still play Machine Life every now and then. |
