I guess a big difference is that while popular stupid electronic music might have been very cheesy and commercial, the scene wasn't nearly as corporate as nowadays. You didn't have these billion dollar companies going shopping and buying everything they can. Sure, there was plenty of money involved even back then but in the 90's it was somewhat of a real, organically grown youth movement, today everything's just so deliberately manufactured in the hyper-commercial 'EDM' scene.

I don't know about you guys but back in the 90s in the far east, its so hard to even get hold of Eurodance music or infact any kind of EDM. Media is all clouded with either oriental and general Pop, Boybands or mainstream Hiphop. You wouldn't even knew about 'eurodance' if you had never been to a club (apparently not every nightclub) or exposed to compromised media
I remember spending my time surfing through mtv channels with false hope that it will ever play an EDM song of some sort like say The Prodigy or Jam & Spoon.
Apparently now everybody knows Tiesto, Afrojack, David Guetta and Avicii at least
for nerds out there - count how many different notes are hit in barbie girl - then count how many are in musician.

You kidding right? didn't you have 'Partyzone' and 'Megamix' every friday night? that was the bomb... i use to sit 2 meters from the screen while recording the good parts in my vcr.

jesus titty christ. it sounds like elevator nintendo 3d music. Probably shouldn't of made reference to musicians as a musician would probably know if not how to voice chords so they don't sound bad but at least know it sounds like . amazing how void of talent one can be and make a really good living.
