The kind of stuff you just think of out of the blue.
Keep an iPhone or ipad with you at all times. Purposefully remind yourself to think about thinking about name.
I have 3 killer ones which I can't tell any about.
Rainbow Jim is terrible. Unless you are gay , make house and really ing gay. |

Actually, quite the opposite, if again, you know the anthropology;
Around the time, Joel (to his mates ;) ) was looking for a name, the trend in media among the "yoof" was substituting numbers for letters in text message abbreviations, known as leetspeak or l33t etc.
The story goes, right at this time, he was working on a track when his computer died and found the culprit to be a mouse that had climbed in to his PSU and fried itself.
Thus Deadmau5 was born. Now whether or not it's true, it had all the right things going for it - a funny/interesting backstory, it was on trend with his demographic and it also stood out as something different. He was also able to tie it in with other branding like the mask etc.
There's also something to be said for a name that aren't instantly pronounceable but not difficult to get your head around. The moment someone goes how do you pronounce that or what does that sound like, someone is thinking about it. Too difficult and they don't bother, too easy and there's no mistique.
(remember all the jokes about people mispronouncing it Dead-Mow-Five? Just added more hype. |
