Significantly higher pitched DJ sets

As an avid aficionado of j-core and UK hardcore, I have come to appreciate my melodies and beats reasonably fast.
My background though lies in uplifting & prog trance, hence my more melodic and narrow taste in j-core and UK hardcore tracks with certain harmonies present.
I still like trance, but it is quite slow, too slow compared to j-core and UK hardcore.
There is this phenomenon of "nightcore", which is just sped up versions of all kinds of songs and tracks, mostly electronic and I have found it to work quite well on trance tracks of my liking as well.
But doing this track for track is time consuming.
So I thought: Why not speed up whole DJ sets...?
And yes, while not being the holy grail, it does work quite effectively.
Just wondering what peeps here think of doing something like this and if any of you may have even tried this perhaps. |

Pitch... in 1988 Yazz already said it The Only Way Is Up !!!
I often listened to cd's pitched up as I forgot to put it back on my Denon, but I guess you put it higher :) |

| Sure, why not. I've done this endlessly with tracks, if you give me a tempo knob while I'm drunk I can seriously amuse myself (and annoy others around me) for hours. You can go the other way and turn everything into reggae as well, tons of autistic fun to be had. |

I like the quote at the end best, which more or less bemoans, "man, parties just aren't the same anymore, what with these kids now. Why can't it be like when I first partying when I was younger?"

EVERY. RAVER. COMPLAINT. EVER. | That lola da musica documentary they're referencing is a classic by the way, I've seen it many times. Someone should make some subtitles for that. But just to give you an idea of how seriously you can take that quote, here's the section were it was in: linky.
Looks like they were in a great state to be interviewed :p
About the complaint itself, it's sort of a fact that teenagers when they're amongst themselves can't party properly as far as I'm concerned, it just becomes an awkward and aggressive display of machismo and promiscuity. If there's a balanced group of both young and old however, I feel it tends to benefit both groups. The young ones bring a lot of life and energy to the scene when they are kept in check by the older folks around them.
When I was super young we were always trying to go to parties with older people because they were so much cooler and more sociable then people our age. We would have doubtlessly annoyed some people because of that but it was also a very humbling experience. Nowadays many of the parties I visit are so full of old people I honestly find it depressing. |

PVD was the master of this.
you can identify a hipster, by the fact he plays his tracks in negative pitch :stongue: |

Depends on the track in question. A lot of techno tracks can be pitched a long way and they will still work, because they are rhythmic and percussive. Tracks with vocals and live instrumentation start to sound ridiculous quite quickly.
It's pretty rare I would pitch a track outside of a DJing context, although occasionally you get tracks which feel far too fast/slow for their purpose. I can't listen to Cosmithex - Aquarius at its correct tempo anymore, I have to pitch it at +5. Of course, there are plenty of famous examples of records being deliberately played at completely the wrong speed to radically alter their effect. An obvious example would be LTJ Bukem playing Speedy J - De-Orbit at 45rpm instead of 33rpm to turn an intelligent techno track into drum 'n bass.
Speeding a whole set up sounds pointless unless you're very confident every track will pitch up without sounding ridiculous, but the OP appears to have very niche tastes where that ridiculousness seems appealing. |
