Nice track but I feel like that's something a label like Sudbeat would release lol |
^ This, which actually brings up an observation I've made this past year. It seems people on the deep house wagon seem to like this stuff suddenly, even though it was being produced for the past few years on the prog labels.
Now you have an influx of people going to Guy J nights, Cattaneo nights, etc, that normally wouldn't have been there because they "hated prog". |

Its been the trend in "deep house". This is essentially a quality prog track slowed down to 120bpm or so, less aggressive.. the breakdown is very proggy. If you go see Dixon, this is the type of stuff he plays. Melodic lush tracks at 120 bpm.
Labels like All Day I Dream, Supplement Facts and Last Day on Earth have been releasing this type of stuff over the last two years, even prog labels like Sudbeat have slowed down the tempo and their releases are less 'epic'.. less white noise, less punchy kicks, smaller drops, etc.. |

It really, really isn't. And neither is it deep house. This whole sound is quintessentially German to me, it stems more from the whole early '00s "emotional techno" thing that came out of Germany. It has nothing to do with progressive or deep house.
Oh - and one recent Innervisions track that I do think is very nice is the last Ame release. |

Here comes System-J to hit the gavel. If you don't already, you should join a debate team. :D
So its "emotional techno"? hahaha |

"Emotional techno" isn't a thing, it's just the title of an old Mixmag article I remember reading around 2006 discussing the rise of soft melodic techno at that time.
But really, why not call the Innervisions/Dixon/etc. sound "emotional techno"? Better than torturing these poor meaningless 25 year old terms to death. |

IV 050 has tracks from recondite, david august, sandrino/frankey and orson wells.
also - i'm inclined to say that each IV EP sounds pretty different. i think more of the problem is that they are all the talk right now and so many others are doing the same so "deep" is just over-saturated.
all quality from the IV DJs though - their BPM party is touted as one of the best parties in a long, long time. |

Not the Recondite track I was looking for but fairly certain he played these aswell.
I've never seen Dixon and while i'd like to it's hard to enjoy him in Berlin since he relentlessly packs out almost every place he place (Panoramabar especially, at the last IV night you couldn't even get inside it was so packed)
And re: Gotham, I thought the track was interesting because most modern melodic house tends have a very full sound, big dubby bass, string and pad laden while Gotham has a very simple and stripped down arrangement. If it really was like any other house track I don't think it would have became the club hit it was, IV hype or not.
I agree that the sound is very German, if you look at what Paul Kalkbrenner is doing, who's massively popular here, it's not all that different apart from the BPM. I don't know about calling a bunch of 120 BPM housetracks emotional techno, when I hear that I think of classic detroit or UK techno. Melodic/emotional house seem pretty fitting though. |

Mint Club in Leeds is only 500 capacity so it's probably one of the more intimate venues to see him these days.
I just don't think Gotham and its ilk are very "house". I don't hear much that's come from disco or Chicago in these tracks. |
