And I still Haven't completed a full body of worked that I could call my own and be happy with, a lots happened in those 5 years went from a nieve 17 year old with big dreams to a 22 year old man working a 9-5 just doing it for the joy, I mean kids half my age are banging out tunes in a day , what's wrong with me ? I guess the only surprising thing is that I have somehow managed to stick with it for this long, but it means very little when I have little to nothing to show for it, besides about 800 projects that are half finished. How many of you can truelly say you put 10k hours into anything? |

i know how you feel i have been making tunes for 9 years and i cant find a track i really like i think that if you are not happy in life it can really effect your produtions.
but you get out what you put in these days i make the point of enjoying the proses of making tunes even if that means i dont enjoy my work.
i also had dreams to but somethings dont work out |

I've been around this forum for a while, and although I don't listen to a lot of members' music unless they specifically request me to, I can't recall ever having seen you post a WIP. So, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that maybe you haven't finished anything for fear of being criticized, fear of not sounding as good as the music you listen to, fear of not sounding as good as some of the other members or those kids half your age who can pound out a song in a day, etc..
OK, so that's not really going out on a limb - it's pretty common actually. My advice is to find the song that's closest to being done, hammer it out today, post it on forums for feedback, and be prepared to get burned at the stake over how awful it is. Then, be surprised when some people give you praise, helpful feedback, not helpful feedback, etc. Then, take their advice when/where you think it will improve your song, and disregard the rest. Don't be one of those people who listens blindly to every criticism or advice - it's your music and the only person you have to please is yourself. Take the helpful advice, disregard the not-helpful advice, and ignore the trolls/haters. When you're happy with it, put it out there for the world to see and move on to the next one. |

Getting berated when I first came here is a pretty huge part of the reason I'm as good as I have become haha. |

In almost the exact same boat...hundreds of projects that haven't been touched for months, and I'm even turning 22 this month.
They say you're your own harshest critic... :) |

I honestly think that if you're your own harshest critic it's time to find better critics. Sometimes it's easy to convince yourself that you can make something work when it just isn't going to happen and people can provide you real input. Otherwise you're just going to work yourself into a corner trying to make like.. dub trance witch house breaks. |

When you hatched out of an egg, the possibilities were endless. Now you've hit level 22, evolved into a grown up, realised you suck at a lot of things and it's too late to not suck. Be careful what you get good at.

Who cares? If you enjoy it, keep going. If you don't, stop. |

Well it's more just a saying meaning we're (typically) harder on ourselves than most other people will be. Of course, someone's next track always has the possibility of really being a piece of crap... :D |

Why don't you post a snippet of your production. |

Post a WIP...take feedback...make improvements...repeat...
Sometimes you have to have a word with yourself. Why are my tracks not sounding how i want - what exactly am i doing wrong - what can i do to improve my tracks
Dont give up - you will get there eventually |

i appreciate the responses, i decided to make to make a snippet of two seperate tracks that i feel like are closer then they are ever going to be to being completed.
they are sort of all over the place as far as genre, i feel like the ideas are there, i just need to sculp it out more, all feedback will be appreciated,

first of all, i had to turn my monitors way way up so not sure whats happening on your mixdown there
yeah, its like a mish-mash of ideas together in that first half but i have to say that honestly there were some nice elements there, they just need to be pieced together better
As you know its one thing making a little piece/loop but arrangement is then another step
the 2nd half has some serious distortion/saturation going on - if thats the sound your after then ok but its way over the top for me - i really like the lead at the end tho...
i would suggest - take a look at your favourite tracks and study the arrangement - as an experiment, try and lay out one of your tracks with the same arrangement, that might help you along |
