MOD POST - I'd like some input from you guys, regarding "spam".

It seems that some companies, or promoters, or whatever you want to call them, come here and make threads about their new products. In other areas of TA, I generally think of it as spam, and remove it accordingly, but I realise that perhaps it's useful to some folks here in the Production Studio... and I'm unsure of how these sorts of threads were dealt with by DigiNut previously. Things are a little more niche here in the PS.
To give you an idea of what I mean, from recent threads:

And:

Is this the sort of thing you want in here? Or, would you guys regard it as spam and want it removed? I'm not looking to change the dynamic of the place, but as your newly acting mod, I'd like some input before I start rampantly deleting threads :p |

| IMO, the swedish house mafia sample packs from that guy singomakers posts should be considered spam and prompt for deletion cuz i don't think anyone here considers those useful. |

Even though it is production related it's still blatant spam, so get rid of it I say. There's another forum for selling stuff. It is kind of annoying to see some come here with the sole intent to sell their , and don't contribute anything worthwhile to the place. I'm not trying to speak on behalf of anyone here, but I get the feeling that not many posters here care for these kind of threads.
Otherwise this forum seems to take care of itself for the most part. |

It wouldn't be too bad if these guys actually contributed now nd then as some of them are talented producers, but as it is yeah it's blatant spam.... People who buy these products will be aware of them anyway through loopmasters etc..
If regulars want to advertise something though I don't mind at all. |

yeah its all spam
What they should be doing is offering a special discount on their products to TA members if theyre gonna post here
otherwise they can fack off |

Thanks Stu for being proactive on this.
TBH, occasionally, a couple of these posts can be useful and highlight something you didn't know about before, but more often than not, they are really just spam from people pedaling their wares;
I personally don't mind if it's someone that contributes selling their templates or soundbanks or samples, but when it's some random twat pushing Douchebag House Muppets volume 7, with 800mbs of jesus posing tape stops and fist pump reverb drenched snare, then it's neither useful or even on topic for this forum, and doesn't belong.
With the other Gaia thread on here about Templates, that's more about spamming that guys' name on this forum than actually offering anything useful.
That's why the Work In Progress (WIP) thread has DJ RYAN banned in the title. There's a distinct difference between posting your latest track in progress/asking for feedback, and just trying to get people to click on your soundcloud or download it from beatport.
I really don't mind DJ RYAN, but just to give an precient example of what I'm talking about, the reason he was banned from that thread was that prior to it, he would make threads "what do you think of this track?" or "I'm making this sound, have I Nailed it?" but every single one was just to get clicks on his soundcloud. It had nothing to do with feedback or either asking for constructive criticism. Every single thread was like this.
I think that has to be the definition - if it's something that users might genuinely find useful or informative or it's the info of launch of a new product, then all good, but when it's simply selling a product, then they should get the spam ban. |

| Thanks for the input, guys. I'll take it on a case-by-case basis, and obviously regular contributors here will get a lot more leeway for this kind of thing since they're not here JUST to push a product, but generally I'm going to consider it spam and remove it from now on. If you think I've missed anything, then let me know and I'll sort it out. |

I don't mind it much, so long as it's not crap. Like if someone's like "Hey, we just came out with a new vst" or "Check out this new vocal sample pack" I'd like to see it, but if it's some tier thing like the Swedish House Mafia sample pack, yeah get that the hell out of here.
Useful products I have no problem being promoted though. |

| Yeah, I'll keep all of that in mind. Like I said originally, I don't want to get rid of anything that people here might actually find useful. |

My views sit on both side of the fence.
As a user with thousands of posts over several years and one that makes the majority of their income from soundset sales I do feel entitled to post here about them. Most audio forums allow these kinds of posts.
On the other hand I totally agree that users that register only to post sales threads could be barred.
I was about to post a two in one thread about a new soundset and an Easter sale. If you would rather I didn't I'd respect that of course.
I used to run an audio forum and took these things on a case by case basis, but that requires a little more in the way of moderation of course.
Perhaps users should require a certain number of posts (the limit I set was 500 or over) in order to be able to make promo posts. |

| Yeh, no posts = no promotion |
