Except, a ghost producer is usually making money from ghost producing for multiple known artists, and usually also make money from their own productions, sometimes under multiple aliases.

right but why not just release them themselves. There is no sense doing it unless you are doing it for someone that would sell more because they are a big dj. There are maybe 20 or so that would make it worth their while.

It just doesn't happen like it used to. And when it does, it is usually just another name dj/ producer helping a friend.
Storyteller
Various people in my network do ghostproduction for various aliases. They are paid decently for their work, several hundreds and beyond the 1000. Even some are now employing other producers because they can't meet demand on their own.

@Rann, Armin was not a lawyer before his djing career.

Well, I know for a fact he went to law school and at least did it for several years, maybe he didn't take the bar.

That's why he also did some fake courthouse/judge intro thing a few episodes back on ASOT. The intro was this cheesey thing with judge and barrister (like the English High Court/Old Bailey).

I think what happened was that he was in law school, started DJ'ing and realized he could get more trim/naked midgets via music, and packed in the law school, knowing he could come back to it.

Fast forward 20 odd years, and that narrative gets changed by his PR agency to: Armin came out of the womb with headphones attached (real picture below) and was destined to be TranceJesus, but then did a bit of law school just in case (you know, because when you need a frivolous backup plan for a secondary career, you enroll in 7 years of expensive education only to pack it in in the last year).

He was in uni then left to be trancejesus but he returned to graduate in 2003, around the time when he did ASOT 100.

I think it's like Shaq's college degree.:happy2:

It also helps being somewhere were there is action but cheap to live.

Montreal is the only place in NA.

I was just thinking, if you are an aspiring producer isn't best to live in countries like Sweden where you get paid 1000 euros each month for scratching your ass at home?

That's a ratio calculation though. Although LA is not cheap to live, I'm not a pauper and the cost of living is greatly offset by the sheer amount of abundant action.

Lol, you mean Dr Shaq? :haha:

Yeah, sounds about the same, although Sweden has very strange laws when it comes to law. You can actually give legal advice without being a lawyer, and you can actually be a lawyer without being a certified lawyer. Only certified lawyers can give true legal advice that is legally binding, whatever that means.

Nobody learns in la unless they have rich parents. You need 4-8 years of not working much and doing music. Few cities sallow that. The people that succeed tend to have rich parents.

Allied Nations
i know a bunch of guys who make between 1000 and 1500 and track and are also working DJs and producers who make other income from their own songs and gigs.

tunes are now the calling card for djs and plenty of guys are making between 600 and 1200 a gig who depending on having music come out... a lot of these guys have dayjobs also which gives them the cash they need to buy music from ghost producers

maetrik/maceo plex is the most famous example of ghost producer gone star... he finally realized he was good enough to make more money doing his own music i suppose.

its true the guys with richer parents def have a greater success rate but the super creative against all odds guys have a chance too... if it sounds amazing,

many of this category sold drugs at points to pay for studios.. i can think of at least 5 producers who i know for a fact did this and arent allowed in some countries because of arrests relating to it.

as for making a living... who knows! i've been doing it for about 3 years and it hasnt been easy but i havent show up to a job at 9 am in ages which is great. right now im in the tranzien couch surfer phase with a big move coming up.. who knows what will happen next!

btw looney, would you sell one of your spare uad quads? one of the people i collab with uses UAD plugs and i either need a whole new computer and the new twin or go for the rack and get more power
Looney4Clooney
sell you a mac pro with the quad

and all that stuff about dealing drugs and ghost producing is what you would say a decade ago. You don't need a studio. You also don't become a dj then producer. its something that used to happen because the economics changed and djs realized they needed tracks. Everything changed and it is reversed.People produce , they get popular, they learn to dj.
