the miami underground series is great, seems really low key. there are three so far - all three worth checking out...
looking forward the ibiza edition. looks really similar to the miami ones, though that isn't a criticism.

| Yeah, It's usually the downtempo disc of your average Bedrock compilation that's most worth listening to. Been that way for nearly ten years, now. |

| Honestly there have been some great Bedrock releases (non-ambient) in the last several years. However, as with 99% of the labels in existence right now, you have to wade through the to find them. |

Well yeah, I'm referring to the compilation as a whole, which is relevant considering that very few of them are issued in unmixed format. There's always a gem or two to be found on any given Bedrock compilation, but their track-record throughout the past decade hasn't made listening to them from beginning to end a worthwhile endeavor.
...with the exception of the downtempo/chillout mix usually attached to their multi-disc compilations- something that I recall beginning with the first 'Layered Sounds' edition in 2004, and continues today with 'Structures' and anything that isn't a Digweed mix per se. |

you sound like you are living in the past.
bedrock dont do a downtempo disc anymore. maybe starts off with a few slower warm-up tracks, but not downtempo, ambient or chilled.
bedrock 14 was released in only unmixed format.
bedrock 11 is an excellent compliation, both discs are packed with amazing club tracks.
you should check out the 3 miami underground mixes is you are looking for quality bedrock, not your usually pounding stuff.
bedrock have moved on with the industry, you need to realise that. unless there's some magic imprint that's releasing the kind of tracks bedrock was realising 10 years ago that i don't know about? (in which case fill me in) |

No, just painfully aware of Bedrock's present in relation to its far superior past.

Have you even listened to any of the samples from the compilation that inspired this very thread, or read the description from Bedrock? Maybe you're splitting ambient and chilled hairs from a larger downtempo trunk, but the first disc of this very compilation is entirely reminiscent of the first discs of those same Bedrock compilations I mentioned (maybe a BPM or two faster).

If that's the only example you can offer, then it sounds like 'very few' to me.

Isn't that the same reason I just said the downtempo discs were the ones most worth listening to, this compilation included?

Of course they've moved on with the industry, and I should think that my emphasis on the very noticeable contrast between past and present speaks to my realizing that. |

the miami underground series isn't downtempo, but neither is it stomping.
it isn't bedrocks fault the entire industry took a nose dive, quality-wise. they can only work with the talent available - and the genres trending in recent years (most notably minimal and it's offshoots) made good music harder to materialise - since everyone seems to follow the same pattern... anyone producing stuff that bedrock did 10 years ago just would not get any support.
i'm interested... is there any contempory non-ambient compilations worthwhile listening to beginning to end?
maybe you just aren't into club music? |
