It's true that the stats for post-op satisfaction are rather grim, but if I remember correctly the stats for people who are refused the operation are even worse.

When exactly did Tumblr become this hotbed of computer chair social activism? When I first encountered it seemed like a place for artsy types to post photos, quotations, or cryptic mini blog posts. Then I had nothing to do with it for a few years and I start hearing about a certain breed of "activists" who choose from a list of several hundred newly coined pronouns to refer to themselves, demand "trigger warnings" everywhere, etc. etc.

I am inclined to think the criticism of it is overblown. Accusations of "social justice warrior" permeate the "American" internet, as conservativism thrashes around, casting shade at any and all very real social issues that challenge the status quo in a west increasingly destabilized of traditional mores.

I have a tumblr, and through it follow plenty of other tumblrs- it's just pictures and occasional Youtube clips, song shares, etc. It's exactly as social/bloggy as you want it to be, and in the places I go, that aspect is nearly vacant.

The backlash has less to do with what people post on tumblr and more to do with their posting outside of the site which amounts to little more than armchair activism. The type of logic that is used often reminds me of organized religion at its most righteous, different side of the same coin.

People in all different types of fields work extremely hard to create things only for these guys to constantly trash them and tell them that unless a certain set of totally arbitrary conditions are met they will #screamatthetopoftheirlungs. These conditions vary from person to person and range from reasonable to totally bat crazy. Caving to one group makes another scream "appropriation".

The discourse that happens because of this is sometimes good, but the idea that these people should be appeased at every turn or else #armchairactivistoutrage is simply insane. Never compromise your creation just because another person finds it offensive. In a world with billions of people many inevitably will. On the other hand it doesn't hurt to incorporate more diversity either provided it doesn't compromise your work. Of course all of these concepts and definitions are very abstract and vary from case to case and person to person...

Do you have an example of what you're talking about in "comprimising [their] creation"? Racist and sexist being called out for what it is seems a step in the right direction. I'll not disagree that it becomes some people's raison d'être to scroll around life and the internet seemingly charged with frittering away their time being outraged at the particulars, but their dismissal all too often justifies their need for a voice all the much more.

Well, what people consider racist and sexist is where the line gets blurred...

As far as compromising their creation I am mainly talking about the recent backlash in various forms of media (movies, tv, video games, etc) against certain stereotypes of the format. Gender, race representation, etc.

One example is in a game based on Chinese martial arts fiction people were protesting the developer because some of the martial arts schools were gender locked. You couldn't play a male in the Emei school because based on the lore and fiction the game is based on that is how it was. There was more blacklash over why females can't be in the Rootless (enuch) school. Needless to say I think that one explains itself :stongue:

I could list a million more examples like that where people get up into arms about small details like that which really leaves a bad taste in the mouth of everyone who enjoys the created media for what it is, not what it isn't: an unrealistic utopia where everything is fair and all people are completely equal. If every movie, book and game was completely devoid of all conflict I think life would be pretty dull.

So I've developed a fascination for transsexuals after Casper Smart and Hank Baskett got busted for taking an interest in chicks with dicks. Compounded with a friend of mine who is one of the mot beautiful girls in the world with a dick. She ( "she"?) tells me gay men are not attracted to transsexuals. All her boyfriends are "straight".

Just trying to wrap my head around this and understand this.

Opinions?

Everyone has an opinion. Bottom line: Not every gay or straight guy thinks alike; there are sexual orientation studies which claim human sexuality is a gradient (bell curve) which means no one is ever 100% straight or gay.

Transexuals and Transgender are entirely different (so I've heard from a couple of friends who have transitioned), so in the end, using labels makes you a simpleton.
