I realise now that the OP is misleading. What I've been talking about lately has actually nothing to do with the video or OP, it was a spin off from kthoughts post. So sorry if that confused any of you.
I think I can make it clear this way. degee, your Jordan example. He probably didn't start with an obsession with tactics and technique. My guess is that he started playing ball, for fun with he's mates. It probably took several years before he started to really dive into the technical aspects. He watched a lot of basket, and was influenced by the moves he saw. He learned those he wanted to learn, and when everything came together it was in a new way. He learned by doing, and experimentation.
This is a much better way of learning, than if he would have found an idol, and tried to copy him completely. He would then have became a copy, instead of something unique.
So what I say is, don't copy anyone particular. Find different things you like in different tunes and even genres. This is obvious to a lot of people. But not to everyone it seems.
I hope that makes it clear. |
Style always develops and is more an expression of you as an individual. It is rarely depedent on say who your influences are in in that someoeme with nothing to say will have no unique voice regardless of they don't try to emulate others. Those that do will develop style and ignoring others is the slow way and you would be doing yourself a disfavour. |

Im not really sure what you're saying here? Are you saying that influences don't influence your style? |

| Style will develop and is more complex than the sum of what ed producers you like. Don't worry about developpping style. It happens. You will slow your own style by not listening to others. |

Yes, of course it happens. But influences and how you approach things will have a big impact on the end result.
I have not said that you shouldn't listen to others. |

Style is a way better word for for "creation on autopilot" and it's what i meant to describe unique intent drive. |
|

| deegee |
Style is not in any way 'creation on autopilot.' All artists in all media have their own style.
'unique drive intent' is a nonsense phrase. |

style is habit one forms from years of acquiring and interpreting knowledge and the resulting way that knowledge gets used.
i impress myself sometimes.
creation on autopilot really is well, i actually have no clue what it means. What is autopilot and what is creation. If you are going to define , be clever or bing it. |

| Do you have anything useful to back up that statement or is it content-free snark? |

| I must have misunderstood. I thought you said that all artist have their own style :D |
|
|
| deegee |
| I did say that. They do. Even the most slavish of copyists has their own style. |
