Although personally I think it's bigger then in 1997 looking worldwide although I have no facts to prove it. |

The influence of billionaires buying out beatport, installing ticket-master backed festivals into america and buying spots on the radio for pop friendly "EDM" is largely responsible for trance's current plight.
In 1999, trance was the pop-friendly electronic style of the day. In 1993 trance was the pioneer artsy new style of the hipsters. Modern trance is mostly nostalgia for 1999 blended with some modern big room "EDM" sensibilities.
Mainstream appeal is primarily a function of marketing and promotion, the days of music reaching mainstream status on its own merits are long past. |
