This made me laugh out loud, I appreciate your candor.

That's really too bad, I expected a bunch of places like the Pickle - a bit raw but awesome vibe, great sound, great people, etc... but you're giving me a reason to pause. I'm still going, but I'm tempering my enthusiasm a bit.

I won't lie though, the actual festival is amazing and is absolutely the best outdoor event centered upon techno/house music in North America. For the money you cannot beat it.

As bad as the clubs are, Hart Plaza (the site of the festival) is amazing. It almost feels like that place is built specifically for the festival. Paxahau does a great job hosting the event and they take pride in curating the festival properly. The stage layout, sound, vibe, and people all make it quite the experience. And if you have VIP tickets, it's even better.

I don't want to scare you from doing Detroit, I've done it a couple of times and had a blast. I just wanted to be honest about the nightclub scene there. If you're not into festivals and just want to do clubs, then I'd think long and hard about going. The clubs are nowhere near what you'll find in Miami, Chicago, NYC, Toronto, Europe, etc. Not even in the same stratosphere.

City club is a terrible venue and so hot inside. Get physical threw a great party there and this year was flying circus. I only went for mano Le tough. He threw down one of the best sets I heard all year.

After, I went to Marco Carola at bleu. Was super packed and it was already late so Marco was in his zone. Couldn't stay too long becaus I wanted my beauty rest for Old Miami.

Old Miami is a staple. Never to be missed.

Since I went to my first one in 2008 my age has slowed me down. I now sleep Saturday after the festival and wake up to go to TV bar at 6 am. Stacey Pullen played the most insane set from 6 am till noon.

TV bar is my fav venue.

If you bought VIP tickets, they'll send you an email in the near future with a discount to book rooms at the Westin.

Any idea on the what price range they typically have secured?

No idea, but from what others have said it's considerably lower than anything else in the vicinity. Probably covers the price of the VIP ticket itself and then some.

I missed out on the first round

Yea, I missed the cheaper price for the VIP so got the $220. I see. Well, I rebooked another room 1.5 miles from the location for around $140/night. Let's see what they come with on it.
