There are certain tracks out there that are considered high on an unnecessary pedestal. I'm talking about tracks that are even in the 90s that are often regarded as the holy creation of trance, yet to some of us may come off as not that great. This thread will be used to list some tracks that you can consider overrated, and in no particular order, just share a list of tracks that you feel fit the "overrated" criteria.

In no way was I intending to troll or offend any other TA's personal preferences. This thread is solely just to share your own personal opinion. You guys can argue with each other if you want, but just know it isn't my intention to start any fights :P

1. Rank 1 - Airwave

- This track is good, and although I love the supersaw guilty pleasure of it, the emotional and melodic beauty that can be seen in it, I feel like this track is a bit overrated. I've personally seen people on YouTube say that this was considered the greatest track ever in EDM (or: trance) history. It sorta silly to hear someone say that when there are clearly many better tracks out there. I love Airwave, but it isn't THAT great.

2. ATB - Ecstasy

- To people who probably never even dug dig into the trance scene, or EDM in general, a lot of people will consider this track "a classic" just because of the simplicity of the track. This track isn't overplayed, but it is sorta boring and should only be heard once in a blue moon. The lyrics are gimmicky and the track never reaches any redeeming and notable moments when listening to the full track. It's like right when she finishes the first verse "You really are my ecstasy!" , you really feel like you wanna move onto the next track because it feels like the track is already over.

3. Push - Universal Nation

- To me this track is decent but I never really got into it. The track doesn't build quite well and the melody doesn't do a good job at keeping me entranced for an entire 7 minutes or so. I feel like this track is good when you listen for the first few times but it can get tired of really easily. And this isn't from compulsive listening. I really like "Plastic Boy - Twixt (Original Mix)" way, way more.

4. Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar
5. Armin Van Buuren - Communication
6. Armin Van Buuren - Blue Fear
7. DJ Tiesto - Lethal Industry
8. DJ Tiesto - Flight 643

Good thread.

Rank 1 - Airwave is a good choice and it's not revisionist history either. I've read countless people bashing that track during TA's heyday as nothing more than a romantic love theme with a beat behind it.

I also think cafe del Mar is straight ass, the original Kid Paul mix that is. The three n one remix is so legendary that I literally view that as the original mix.

Sasha ‎– Xpander

People seem to be crazy about this one, but it never did much for me.

Edit(s):

Paul van Dyk - For An Angel

Friend of mine used to be crazy about this one, as though he were tripping on E. Did absolutely nothing for me.

Hardfloor - Acperience 1

Never cared for this, whereas Acperience 3 is where it's at for me. Wild and experimental acid on that one, never a dull moment. Pergon - The Deliverer is a similar builder to Acperience 1, but far better imo.

I agree with this too, my goodness.

I'm only going to be touching on things that frequently end up on "Best trance ever" lists.

Armin - Communication
I've heard this referred to so many times as Armin's best work, and while not inherently terrible, the 9 minute runtime was more than it needed and I just think it could have been done better...and it was, with Vincent De Moor's remix.

Binary Finary - 1998
A fairly unexciting track which is frequently lauded as one of the best trance tunes of all time...but usually people are thinking of Kaycee's remix...might as well have called their group Rumplestiltskin because they made gold from a dog turd.

Here's where I'm gonna catch some flak I'm sure...Members Of Mayday - Sonic Empire
This dull track was an anthem for the legendary Mayday rave. It's clear that in the year 1997, Westbam cared more about Loveparade, as this was the same year he churned out one of my favorite tracks, Sunshine.

Rank 1 - Airwave
Again, not a bad track, but it's quite unexciting and there are countless tracks Rank 1 tracks better than this, such as Cosmomatic or their remix of Superstring.

Sasha - Xpander
Not a bad track in itself, but with a runtime of over 11 minutes, it gets a bit dull. The track could be easily halved without losing any key elements.

Taylor - Anomaly (Calling Your Name)
DAMN is this track boring! All the remixes it's had and many of them are fairly dull as well. Watch the dance floor empty as you drop this boring track into your set...

Tiesto - Adagio For Strings
Nothing special here. Not bad for a listen, but is fairly boring and I'd avoid playing it for a crowd.

Veracocha - Carte Blanche
Not horrible, but terribly overrated. You'd think with the minds of Ferry Corsten and VDM at the helm, they could have come up with something better than this fairly generic anthem. It's a shame this is arguably VDM's best known track.

The original or 1998 version?

It was probly the '98 version, not that they're so different.

honestly i find myself liking a lot more of these kinds of songs now a days then i did back then just because of the nostalgia attached to them.
Kilixpree
'out of the blue'. I can't like it. Also 'airwave' is horrible. in my opinion, ofc. I can't remember if I ever listened the whole track, I always stop before.

xpander is awesome. hang your heads in shame. you wouldn't be mentioning it if it wasn't sasha.

the binary finary is the worst, someone already mentioned it. ing awful tune, never liked it back in the day - no idea why it was popular in any of its forms.
Scoops
I'm going to start off with one of the most obvious ones

Andy Moor And Adam White Present Whiteroom - The Whiteroom

I still do not see the big deal about this track. its utterly boring!! all the markus fan boys wait for it every year to be played on his GDJB classics showcase

a few others...

Midway - Monkey Forest

I'm sure i'll get some flack for this one but this is another track that IMO is filler at its best

Above & Beyond - No One On Earth (Gabriel & Dresdan Remix

never been of this one. I despise the vocal line

The Morrigan - Remember (Lange Mix)

I'm a huge fan of Lange but Christ this is another where vocal is just bloody awful. ISOS 1 is great...up until this track comes on. thank god tijs put it close to the end
