Image and electronic music

One thing that attracted me to electronic music was the seemingly lack of image consciousness surrounding the community of enthusiasts that are into the music. I mean, if you look at the artists, like the producers and the DJs, they just seem like normal dudes who like to make music. If you look at hip hop and various types of rock bands, you'll notice that image is a huge part of that scene. On the other hand you have the raver or clubber image associated with the electronic/dance scene but those people tend to be more into the clubbing/raving aspect of the scene, probably not the music per se. Any comments? Any disagreements? I just thought it was an interesting topic for discussion. :)

I agree. I also was attracted more by the Electronic music scene (trance, house) because I did not have to follow any special trend of clothing. I did not need to buy any special "outfits or gear" to go out. I could just dress normal and not worry about "fitting in". Although I think there is a bit of a trend with clothes starting now (those cool LCD display shirts etc) but I think it would take a while for that to catch on. But I like the trend of electronic music as it is now, which is none. No special clothes to wear or anything. I like it better that way. :)

producers arent entertainers thats why

and people who go to raves/clubs dress up and have an image just like any other group

altho .. u gotta admit that the clothes that do go along with the genre certainly look gooooood.. :]

Never understood paying an obscene amount of money for clothes, just to imporess a bunch of people you'll never know because you wore the same higher-then-thou attitude that comes along with it while listening to chest-beating-I'm-the-best-there-ever-was music.

I call it 'music' to at least deferentiate it from the sound of my toilet when it flushes, which oddly enough, has sort of a symbolic imageary to it at the same time... :p

Never liked the attitude of the people; it stinks and to me, even if it is a bling-bling girl, is actually uglier than if she were actually ugly.

There just an aura about the whole thing that turns my stomach.

I'm not jaded am I? :p

Disclaimer: I will admit that some songs do actually get airplay in my earhole...

hmm....well nobody cares wat u look like as long as ur there to have a good time. chip chop and euro is all based on visual stimulus (thats y the ginas are so loaded with layers of makeup)

from pop to euro to chipchop, its all based on attracting people to it based on "how good things look".

i listen mostly to rock, alternative, electronica(Excluding euro and freestyle), Jazz and classic rock... mainly cos nobody cares wo or what u are and look like but can appreciate the music anyhow u want to and is meant for intellectual insight

i tend to disagree on the statement that rock has an image, cos it doesnt really..thats only because of the assumtion that since most of the rock fans dress up link punks etc. but there are many more who dont dress that way and dress their own way....

So I guess when I go out to a “rave/club” and dress up in jeans and a collared that is the rave image?

You can associate an image with many parts of society but you don’t have to look the part in order to be interested in the music or participate in the events.

If that was the case do you know how many different sets of clothing I would have to have?!! Just be yourself and do what you do.. Don’t let others tell you how to do it.

well if you can go to a club or rave in normal clothes then certainely the same could be said for a rap or rock show

also what is "normal" does something that is cheap mean normal? is it something that isnt brand name?
DJ El Kay Dee
hmm....both of u lost me

All I am saying is don't change who you are just because of where you are going.

Each person has their own definition of normal. I suppose normal to some is brand name... Isn't brand name to others. But I don't think the majority of the population sees the stereotypical rave wear as normal. (Although it may be normal to some)

I joined the electronic music / Dance scene because of the music..

heh..

Seems i'm the only one..

unless you wear a moo moo of some sort you are still in a certain way following a trend.. Who cares as long as you don't look like an ass.. But if you wanna dress like an ass, who am i to talk..

ATM people.. About the MUSIC.. not the style, or lack of style that drew you to it..

oh and BTW, Oliver Lieb is my new favourite DJ.. His incorporation of Psy/trance/house, OWNS ALL!

I think that Trance is made for anybody. You dont have to look a specific way or talk an a way to distinguish you as a trance listener. A constantly evolving music, its what makes it both unique and enjoyable. I mean thats not to say that other forms of music (rap, hip hop, pop..etc..) are inferior in any way. People just like different types of music. The most important thing to remember is one type of music evolves from another. So no matter how we look at it. all types of music is important in their own way.
