Organized a nice little tasting yesterday with several friends. Went to the local liquor store, the guy there was as passionate as ever. He helped us with the order in which we should be tasting and even threw in a couple of samples. This was our drinking order:
Bushmills 10yo
Midleton very rare 2010
Royal Lochnagar 12yo
Oban 14yo
Talisker 10yo
Bowmore small batch
Laphroaig 10yo
Nice buildup, and we even had some food to go along with it. Nougat for the first two whiskies, cigars for the next two and crackers with smoked salmon for the last three. And I must say, especially the salmon was spot on.
Really liked all of them. The Laphroaig was my choice, I really favor the more smoky whiskies. I'm gonna go for the Lagavulin 16yo for my next bottle. |

| My brother recently recommended Buffalo Trace. I'm not generally a bourbon guy, but damn that's good stuff (to me). |

I've never really been a big Whiskey or Scotch person, but the other night I went to a scotch bar with some friends and got a sampler. Some I liked, some I didn't.
The sampler included:
Bowmore Legend
Springbank 10yr
Speyburn 10yr
Auchentoshan Classic
I can't remember which one of these, but one of them was really good.

Also found out salmon goes pretty good. didn't realize it beforehand, but one of our people ordered a salmon appetizer and it really went well. |

| I'm not really into all the fancy stuff, I just drink Jamesons. Went to the distillery place last summer too which was good. |

My final recommendation is this The Balvenie 14 Year Old which is rum casked. It is very full, strong, peaty, and slightly sweet... a fantastic dram.

Alright Craig, took this recommendation this year. Hope he is as pleased with it as the Dalwhinnie we got last year! Will report back. :o |

There is all this hype around Tdot for Crown Royal Rye, its sold out everywhere because it won some "World best Whisky award". Its cheap ass , I havent tried it yet. Im sceptical if its any good though.

| Curious to try it. And not because I'm some whiskey aficionado, but to discern the difference between it and regular Crown. |

| One of our branch managers gave me a fifth of Jim Beam XA (formerly Jim Beam Black) for Christmas. About to indulge in a finger or two. |

| The Jim Beam XA/Black was indeed smooth drinking. Nothing about it really jumps out at me, however. It's neither offensive nor "OMG, run out and buy this now!!" |

| Another vote for Macallan's here. I don't know much about scotch but I happened across it years ago and keep a bottle on the sideboard for sipping on special ocassions |
