RA DJ Poll 2014

I predicted Dixon at #1 again, given that the Innervisions brand just continues to grow and grow. Seems like this was the year of IV again, given that there are 5 IV/releated DJs in the top 10.

Interesting to see a pure DJ with no production credits (Ben UFO) make it into the top 10. Even more impressive given that he's not an old dog that can get by on legend status.

Seems like the Berghain-hype has calmed down a bit, given that Ben Klock stayed roughly the same and Dettmann went down a bunch of spot IIRC. The next resident in the poll is Len Faki at #60.

But for me personally, it's just insane to see Redhead at #9. This was a guy on the path of eternal local underground tip status and he went from not even DJing full time and playing only a few abroad gigs here and there to top 10 underground touring DJ within about a year and a half. Just crazy. I'm happy for him because he really deserves the success but the parties where he plays have gotten more packed and his sets a bit more stale so i'm conflicted :p

This list proves people who read RA also go to Innervisions events. Illuminating.
Paradox Lost
Love this comment:

Clear disparity between what the reviewer wrote and wanted to write:

Maceo Plex - There's a brilliant simplicity to Maceo Plex // There's a simplicity to Maceo Plex

Seth Troxler - ''And because I'm one of the best DJs in the world." Arrogant? Maybe // ''And because I'm one of the best DJs in the world." Arrogant? Abso-ing-lutely

Âme - It would be easy to attribute Âme's success to the global rise of Innervisions// Âme's global rise can be almost entirely attributed to the rise of the Innervisions juggernaut

Tales of Us - We were surprised last year when Tale Of Us took the #2 spot on this poll // We were surprised last year when Tales of Us got on this poll

Dixon - Though his signature style has undeniably morphed over the years, he's stayed remarkably independent and adventurous // Though his signature style has sort-of-changed over the years, he's managed to make a living from playing a slight variation of the debut Innervisions tour set, 2005. For the last nine years.

RA never change

Also, Omar-S clocking in the 70's, but still under 100...does that mean he...lived up to the hype following his Fabric installment? I remember everyone not being able to shut up about this guy until everyone suddenly, like, did.

It goes without saying that the list is bollocks. The DJs I've seen in 2014 who are in the 60-100 range wipe the floor with the DJs I've seen who are in the Top 20.

^ What he said. This list is bogus.

Different demographic, same sort of results. Following in the footsteps of DJMAG.

Of all the DJs i've seen this year only five are in the top 100 so I guess techno still is underground? :p

^^ mothering THIS\

DJs like Dusky, Len Faki, Nicole M, Scuba, Cattaneo, Anja Schneider, etc are as good as it gets and better than most in the top half.

The top of the list is really just a Flavor of the Moment poll. I liken house/techno music trends to craft beer trends since I'm in that industry. A bunch of people just want to seem cool so they drink bourbon barrel-aged imperial stouts and other such things so as to brag about how they drink such amazingly complex brews (but these folks will baby their beers and make wincing faces as they are consuming these beers). Akin to those who go to IV shows or whatnot and being in a total droning, head-nodding state for 5 hours. Nary a smile or laugh the entire time. Then afterwards, they'll tell you about what an amazing, electrifying party it was. :stongue::toothless

Give me a well-crafted hefeweizen, non-imperial IPA, or pilsner and let's call it a day.

But...I admit I do like a lot of the DJs in the top half of the poll. Jamie Jones, Marcel Dettmann, Apollonia trio, Beyer, Diggers, Capriati, DVS1, etc. Mixed feelings about the poll overall. Important thing to remember is that it's just a poll and it doesn't really mean anything important.

interesting observation -- I thought the same thing coincidentally when I was looking over the results.

Jackmaster as well, right? Although he runs Numbers and he may have some low key production creds somewhere, not sure.
