I was going to buy myself a digital watch, but figured for the same price i could get a smartwatch instead. Im just not too familiar with the brands, durablity, usefullness, reliability, etc.

I was looking at a Pebble, but also Sony makes one. There are tons to choose from ranging from $50 to $300. Any thoughts?

Im not exactly sure what a smart watch is, but my wife uses a nike+ watch that has gps, pedometer, and syncs to a run tracker on nike.com. She seems to like that?

them all. They are not ready yet.

Until they bring out a watch that is a standalone phone (not just a bluetooth extension) it simply a toy.

There have been several smaller manufacturers that have brought out cell phone watches (as early as 2006) but they are all crap.

It's like hybrids. Just wait until they actually bring out what we're waiting for.

Thar's an extreme statement. They actually have several useful features, much more than the vast majority of wristwatches.

I have a couple of watches. One expensive for dress etc, and another that does everything from being a compass, to measuring altitude, to several times zones and alarm (usual digital watch functions), spirit level, blah blah etc

Smartwatches right now are nothing but a stop gap. All they do display texts and let you pick or dial up calls from your phone.

You still need a headset to speak (unless you want o look like a real twat and hold the watch to your head), but you also need a phone.

Suddenly you've gone from needing one device (a phone) to needing three to do the same job.

I laugh whenever I see one, as it's like someone walking down the street with their wired headphones in clutching the phone in one hand while pushing one headphone in to their ear. My brian goes so much for hands free lol.

So no, it's no extreme, it's common sense.

When they make a phone that can be worn on your wrist and they figure out a good interface to make and receive calls, as well text or mms, then I will be all over them.

Until then, you're really just buying it because they suckered you in to the marketing hype.

I'd totally buy a smart watch if I didn't need a device for it.

Let me do everything I want with the watch and only the watch.

Then you can have my money.

Syncing sucks. I don't want a phone.

That's exactly what I'm getting at. I don't need a peripheral device for my phone, I want my watch to be the damn phone.

Otherwise it's a pager with a wristband.

I saw one on a commercial and assumed it had a speakerphone on them as well as talk through it:conf:

It seems like a pretty stupid invention whether it's tethered to a phone or not. Almost as douchey as bluetooths.
Syntonic
Anything that prevents me from looking down at my phone whilst driving is a plus. I used to think bluetooths were douchey until I realized that it's just douchey people putting their personal life on blast.

Smart watch is just too ugly, looking at you apple watch. I like fitness bands like fit bit\Ms band\nike fuel. Those devices targets a different market than those ugly smart watches.
Srussell
Right, I should clarify the Bluetooth thing as only douchey outside of a car.
