We are 3 events away from Guv closing for good. I'm feeling kind of sad that I never got to make it out to any of the closing parties. So I thought it would be fun to share a few fav memories...
The first time walking up to skybar at LOL 06 at around 545 and being blasted in the face by sun light... I will never forget that feeling of total shock that it was morning time and the event was still raging...
Lawler being carried off the stage at the 2nd Viva... legit dragged off the stage "Weekend at Bernies" style...
SvD total assault on my ears at Guv Anny. (I think either the 10th or 8th anny. party)...
Eddie Halliwell played the re-opening after the renovations were done to the main room... that man was on fire that night... holy was he...
Steve Aoki knocking his laptop over into the crowd twice in a single set...
The first time I stroked the furry wall in the gallery lol
Those amazing Halloween parties specifically when Carl Cox and Lawler played...
those All Access parties in the early days I will miss most of all, I will even miss the one way traffic lol
met so many awesome people along the way as well... and some sketchy ppl... and I always ran into the most random ppl there as well lol
so many amazing memories in that place... |

The single most stand out memory I have from the Guv is still my first visit in September of 2002, for the very first Labour of Love. It was my first time at a 19+ party, the first time in the Guv/KH complex, and the first (but not last) time seeing Armin, Danny Howells, and Deep Dish.
I had been to a few parties at the Better Living Center, but nothing quite like the Guv (lazers!)
The night started poorly with a 2 hour wait to get in 10pm-midnight, and extreme over crowding. At one point, trying to go from the Orange Room to the Guv main room, the hallway got so jammed, the bouncers closed things off, and made everybody back up and reverse direction. Thankfully the night was a blast after that.
It was my first time seeing Armin, and first time seeing trance with those lasers in the main room. The vibe in the room was amazing, Armin had a huge, genuine smile on his face, the crowd was very friendly and just plain fun. Of course it was way over packed, so we went up to the balcony to get a birds eye view, and boy was that a sight. Colours, and arms, and lights, it is etched into my memory!
Fast forward a little bit, and I am in the KH listening to some damn sexy, and grooving house music. Who ever it was, just kept building, and building, smooth as can be, not a beat out of place. Finally at the peak of their set, streamers come flying out of the ceiling, again perfectly timed. Being a noob, I was thinking 'how did they time it so well?'. The DJ finishes, climbs down the scaffolding, and I had to meet him, find out who had me grooving non-stop. Well I got to meet him, got a picture, and found out it was Danny Howells, I was an instant fan for life. He was incredibly nice, and humble, can he be described in any other fashion?
Now for the reason I was there, Deep Dish. All I can say is that played exactly how I had expected them to, Deep, pounding and long. Of course the crowd started to thin out, as it was getting late (early?), but they just didn't stop. I look off into one of the corners of the KH, and did a double take. There is a middle aged, stalky man, in a pink, vinyl Little Bow Peep costume, staff and all. That was the icing on the cake, and we decided it was time to head out. It was 8:30am, we are spit out on the Queens Quay and it is bright and sunny, jarring. I just had a few thoughts: 1) how are they still playing? 2) Where can I get some food 3) Did "that" just happen?
We ended up falling asleep on the go train back to Mississauga, and waking up in Oakville, fantastic. I had left the house at 8pm the night before, and got home at 1pm. Not bad for a 17 hour outing.
There is my review, only 12 years late.

At LoL 06.
He demonstrated some versatility, not just the banging trance: some electro and techy sounds too. |

I started partying in 06 so I think that was the 07 Sunrise set, which I think was either the 2nd or 3rd skybar session. Like legit it was weekend at Bernie's style, the guy was wrecked... they put his hands over their shoulders and carried him out...
I believe it was the same event that lawler brought the resident dj from club so and so in the uk to open for him... and that guy took off half way thru his set to use the toilet but didn't return in time and the track ran out than I think manzone hit play on the next cdj to keep the party going lol |

Where do I start? There are literally too many memorable & crazy Guv stories to mention, and the same goes for parties. Need to think about it for a couple of days. |

I'm reminded that my ty memory is half the reason I took all these videos lol.
Here's my favourites from over the years. Going through my archives brought back SO many good memories. I knew I went to a lot of great parties there but it's easy to forget how many until you actually going through them one at a time in one sitting.
One great set that I'm missing videos from is when Carl Cox went b2b with Loco Dice in the main room.
My first camera wasn't so great but this is my fondest early memory
