Are pills still common in the UK? It's almost all MDMA powder/crystals here, I get the feeling people are almost embarassed of saying E since it such a cheesy 90s PLUR name :p I don't think i've ever had anyone ask me for E, even tourists, everyone always says MDMA.

Pressed pills are around again. They are always advertised as MDMA but they are never MDMA, and they are always Methylone.

In the US, maybe. I'd read that Mixmag article I linked if I were you. In the UK pills are mainly imported from the Netherlands and are usually the real deal. They've definitely regained their supremacy over powder/crystals in the quality stakes in the last few years.

The thing about E is it's not just one moment, it's a 12 hour journey that hits a massive peak and then slowly descends back to Earth, and there are different points along that path that are very different.

There are probably three different stages that sum up why I love it. The first is shortly after midnight. The headliner has just come on and the music is suddenly changing gear out of the warm-up into the peak time, and you're starting to come up big-time. Then a track comes in that's really pumping and euphoric and you look round at your friends and they've got the same massive grin on their faces you can feel on yours, and you just know in that moment you're going to have a ing wicked night. I've heard this track a couple of times at that moment in the night and it sums it up perfectly:

The second moment comes much later, sometime around 5am. You've been dancing all night, the crowd has thinned out a bit and the last DJ has been taking things really hard and percussive. You've calmed down now but there's only an hour or so left and you want to stay until the end. And then out of the mix slides something tough and percussive but deeper, with just a lone string sound that rises up and runs down your spine and makes all your hairs stand on end. It's that beautiful mellow moment where you're hardly even dancing, you just close your eyes and feel that string stroking your skin. Usually this track is some gorgeous Detroit thing that I'll never find the name of. I haven't heard this track out but I discovered it recently and would love to hear it at that time of night:

The third and final moment comes after the club. The night is over but the journey hasn't quite finished. You've gone back to someone's flat. You're tired but you can't sleep yet. You want something chilled but warm - nothing too harsh or dark - something slow but with a groove, something to keep the juices flowing through you and to soothe your tired mind. I often like to stick this tune on at this point. Not just for the groove, but the way it simply doesn't want to come to an end perfectly encapsulates your state of mind around 8am:

sounds like your still in your honeymoon phase ;)

Most the time I'm out I just get offered Molly. I don't inquire with strangers the details of the form of their offer, but I reckon it's pills from observing people in the restrooms lol

They collect a lot of data from pills here from people who get them tested. Over 95% of them are pure mdma now. And they are more potent then ever, milligram values have risen since fines are to be payed by the pill here should you get caught.

Not in any specific order, but three tracks which, at various moments in the evening, I think exemplify what you're discussing:

I didn't really do ecstasy enough times to give this a good answer, unfortunately. Had a couple really awesome experiences but I don't think I ever got to the full blown "rolling" point people discuss because I'm fairly big and never took all that much.

Quality was an issue a few times and I had a really rough panic attack coming up at a festival which sorta shook me for a while and I stopped. Now I'm on medication which prevents any use soooo, phooey. I wanna participate.

Love Stimulation and Intoxication. I can't even comprehend what they meant to the dance music scene when they first came out and in the years that followed.

YoU guys analyse this too much. E is a drug for pansies and fairies, if you want to dance with the devil meddle in opiates you may truly sleep for the first time in your life you will go to heaven and back or u could wind up alseep for an eternity.

E never seemed authentic to me

Nothing is more real than the cold feeling of slamming junk in your veins. You will find what you are really made of when you wake up sick shaking shivering like a bitch with vomit in your mouth. No fairy drugs for me. Life is hard enough as it is id rathet gamble with something that could kill me rather than look through rose colored glasses for a few hours with a few fairy rave poofs

:clown:

generally speaking, everything you said made perfect sense. it's just that the rise of E coincided with the rise of dance music.

I don't mean to ride Jack's coattail, but he said this 2 years ago

More important to what? This discussion? When you go to a club and listen to dance music, that entire experience is a crystallisation of a drug experience, whether you're partaking in the chemical particulars or not. The whole structure of the event - the length of time, the hours, the concepts of warming up and peak time - that's all intended the maximise the drug experience. It would be naive to deny that most of the music in question is, if not drug music, then at least heavily influenced by drugs. So in a discussion like this, about the narrative of a scene, a post that comprises merely of " drugs anyway, who needs that " is an utterly moronic comment made by someone completely detached from the reality of the subject matter.
