| quote: | It all started with a tweet from dance site Stoney Roads, asking, “Ever listen to a super vocal trance tune and just think ‘hell yea’,” to which Zimmerman replied, “No …wouldnt really call that trance. Trance died in the late 90′s unfortunately. Thanks a lot binary finary.

:( RIP platypus rec.”
Heritage UK trance act Binary Finary took exception to this, tweeting back, “Ignorant comment considering Trance Genre is bigger than ever.” A back-and-forth Twitter war ensued between the two acts (which you can read in full below), with Zimmerman also turning his sights of Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance series, tweeting, “ASOT is about as much ‘trance’ as Nelson Mandela is indie punk.”
“Anyone else remember ‘trance’?” Zimmerman followed-up with. “I’m thinking like, Union Jack… Art of Trance… Etc. You know, old people music,” before clarifying, “Settle down kids, I’m not picking fights. Love what u want. The version of ‘trance’ in my head is more antiquated than adagio for strings k?”
van Buuren waded into the fray the next morning, tweeting (now deleted), “why don’t you come and play #ASOT700 and show us what “trance” is? Or backing out again?” to which Zimmerman replied, “thanks for the kind offer, but no thanks. I’m not really into trance all that much. just 1 opinion of 6.5 billion others,” and, well, you can follow the whole amusing exchange below.

just from reading that part, binary finary make themselves look bad saying the trance genre is bigger than ever. don't know what binary finary have to do with the downfall of trance, is he talking about '1998', '1999' etc. or newer stuff (i'm guessing they are still active and making even worse music)
deadmau5 can't really talk though, as a pedaler of cheap cheesy music. don't think he ever billed himself as anything other than a ty commercial dance act though. i think he even admitted all he does is show up, press a button, then just stand there. |

I'm not surprised Deadmau5 likes the Platypus label though, since it had to do with animals and Madagascar like sounds. Deadmau5 is all about that animal himself haha.
But props to him for at least mentioning older music, you know, the good kind. |

i dont understand how he can throw out statements like that. he has 0 credibility with the way he's playing/producing now & the last couple years. i have downloaded all his albums and just going through it in my itunes it's so bland.. granted theres a few gems but come on.
pretty funny stuff |

Because to us we know he's no good, but to all the newer generation people or more Americans, he is considered as some kind of new age legend.
If you read the daily newsfeed from The EDM Network they're always saying things such as:
"Deadmau5 was revolutionary"
"Deadmau5 made history"
"Deadmau5 does it again"
"Deadmau5 is a legend"
There was even an article saying "the top 5 EDM tracks that will remain a lifetime."
And they said deadmau5 was in those top 5 tracks to be remembered for an entire lifetime
Some pretty ridiculous claims |

He does realize Platipus and Union Jack had that minor comeback five years ago, doesn't he?
Probably not. |

Why? It can be bigger without being the biggest genre or even near that. It's easily bigger compared to the 90's.
I'm not saying the are right, but what would prove them wrong?
Someone clearly needed some attention. |

it's trance only in name.
it's and commercialised, of course it's bigger. it's a brand.
binary finary made one of the cheesiest records of the supposed golden age of trance. truly awful, no doubt the most overrated thing in dance. today i guess they are pushing out that garbage compressed EDM for people who aren't even interested in dance music - pretending it is "trance" to have some sort of faux legacy to cling to.
they aren't responsible for the downfall of trance, now or then, but they didn't exactly help. nor can they claim to be some great of the genre. their output was pathetic if you think about it - essentially rehashing and whoring out one extremely record. |
