pretty good
i would've either mixed a bit earlier in rapture or held the bass of the outgoing track a bir longer till the bass of rapture kicked in
of course there might be others who think otherwise, but that's just my mixing style
but other than that, it sounds great |

First off, your recording is horrible. You are clipping the bass very badly. I don't know if this is your source or if you're overloading, bad compression, bad soundcard etc. but please fix it ;) It will make listening to your transitions for critique much easier.
The two tracks are beat and phrase matched, though the volume on the second track is a bit lower than the first. Also, the second track has a lot less energy than the first, which depending on what you want to accomplish, may be a good or bad thing. If this was a warmup set mix, then it would be okay, though only if not too many if any people are dancing because you'll kill the energy mixing into a track with very little energy and bass beat coming down from a higher energy track. |

its not horrible
i recorded it to 64 because i dont have that much webspace and my upload sucks (10kb/s)
i know that these two songs would not go well together in a set
i was just trying to match two random vinyls i can pick out for practice. |

What he said.
P.S. Stop posting one of your new transitions every week for us rip apart. Practice for a couple month at least and come back with a set. |

| Hey, there is a house mix of glass garden, does anyone know whats it's called? |
|

Sonorous - Glass Garden (Kayestone Remix).mp3
maybe original |

| Xquisite |
you should just spin till you feel it's right. Then come back asking for critiques on your spinning style more so than if your beat/phrasematching is on.
i havent listened to it, but if you hear a "THUMP" together instead of a "THUMP THUMP" every 2 beats, then you got it :toocool: and just have to work on your own style of mixing |

No offense, but if you don't think that what you posted as a recording of you mix is bad quality, then please clean your ears. 64kbps if very bad mp3 quality and if that is why it sounds bad, then please post at least double that and shorten the length by a little, or post in windows media file to make the strain on your bandwith less.
Part of anyone critiquing a mix inately involves thinking of what it would sound like in a live mix. so you can't just say, how were the technical skills and leave all of the other critisisms out. As a DJ, I do not just judge on technical ablility, I judge on the ability to keep the crowd dancing. I was a raver for many years before I became a dj, and so I can alway imagine myself dancing to the sets that I spin. I hate when I am hyped up and the next track kills that hype. This is one major major aspect of djing that must be learned if you want to be a great dj.
Part of being a good dj is being able to pick out two "random" tracks and mixing them. But it is even more important to pick out two tracks that go well together because you know all of your music that well. |
