I guess this was recently reissued (originally released in 2013). I'm not up on my European "electronica" so this is my first hearing these guys. This is my favorite album purchase for 2015. Its like Trentemoller, Minilogue, and Cirque Du Soleil combined.
I'm amazed at the moment.

| Really? Your first experience getting Shpongled? I'm almost certain Simon Posford's come up on this forum dozens of times in the past. Granted, under thread titles like "best psy dub albums?", but still. |

I'm a big fan of Shpongle, went to see them play with the full live band in Belgium last year and in my opinion nobody comes close to matching the creativity, technical perfection and fun they manage to combine in their music and performances.
Museum Of Consciousness isn't their best work, it's great of course but compared to their previous output it does feel like Shpongle going-through-the-motions. It has grown on me massively since the first listen though. I would highly recommend you listen to 'Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost' and 'Tales Of The Inexpressible', and then go through the rest of their catalogue. Ignore the questionable track splitting on NLBNIL and listen to the full thing in one go. You should also recognise their track Dorset Perception from Sasha's first Involver CD.

| Speaking of Simon Posford. I would suggest you to check out his Younger Brother material, as well. The last days of gravity is their best album, in my opinon. |

I've seen Shpongle three times now, including that Shpongletron tour a few years back. Oddly though, I don't have a single one of their albums on hand. Not sure why I keep putting that off. |

Since more than 15 years I'm a huge fan of the golden trio works: Simon Posford, Benji Vaughan, Ronald Rothfield aka Raja Ram, so I'd recommend almost all projects they've been involved - Shopongle, Younger Brother, Hallucinogen, Hallucinogen in Dub (but this one is by Ott), Anubis, Celtic Cross, Prometheus, The Infinity Project, 1200 Micrograms... + Twisted Records and Tip Records (for goa fans) catalogue.
Also Twisted DVD (from 2007) is worth checking out - events, interviews, studio talks etc.
PS. If you ever got an opportunity to hear Hallucinogen Live , do it! one of the best electronic music acts I've ever heard live |

By all means pick your own journey through, but what I would say about their first album is that while it is impressive for it's time, it does sound a little rough round the edges and dated now. And it's definitely spliff music; whereas the following albums all cut a nice balance between energy and chillout.
As lonne mentioned it's worth checking out his Younger Brother project too, although there is so much of his stuff I wouldn't recommend overwhelming yourself with it all at once. You'll probably want to check out Ott at some point too, often mentioned alongside Shpongle (they collaborated on a few projects), but very much in the psydub category. His reworking of Simon's Hallucinogen tracks is one of my favourite albums of all time:

I'm always slighthy jealous of those of you in the US/Canada as Simon, and many other psybient artists, seems to spend most of his time touring there. But on the rare occasion they do appear over here we generally get the full live band rather than the Shpongletron, so swings and roundabouts... Have you experienced both? Are the Shpongletron DJ sets as enjoyable? |
