problems finishing tracks, seeing them through (pg. 2)

Everything is its own special case, what pisses me off is my workstyle thats very frankensteiny. Ive gotten to like 3-4-5-6 minute tracks and couldnt finish them due to mixing errors, clutter and poor judgement. End product would sound like no matter what I did, you get the breaking point and have to move on.

here are two.

I wouldnt make that kind of music anymore. That was trance v5, im on v8.3 equipped with the man-trance update.

You realize he just totally pulled a DJRYAN™? (oh, my tracks dont sound right, please give me feedback but while you're at it, like my youtube channel, FB page and Gryndr profile).

/jk.

Tbh, those tracks sound better than 99% of the tracks I trawl through on BP. I think your problem is that your personal standards are so ing high.

Otherwise, bounce the whole thing to audio files and midi and I'll finish it for you :o

Come on people...they are good sounding tracks but are super generic.
You have tons of similar stuff out there.

Too touchy.

hi guys

i just wondered how many of you suffer with this problem, what your thoughts are on it, how you deal with it, etc

I often struggle with a track during the beginning part. once ive got a good solid idea with a decent structure down its rare that ill scrap a track. but ill often start a tonne of tracks just to get one finished and the process often takes months and months just to get one track finished, especially with work etc

For me its often because i dont like the basic idea enough, or perhaps the track doesn't have a clear enough identity/direction

The way to deal with it for me seems to be to have quite a clear idea of whatim going for style wise, and maybe even a couple of reference tracks to aim towards

It can be a bit frustrating wasting so much time on unfinished tracks and i know it'll be very difficult to ever have any kind of success (even in a modest sense) being so slow!

Thoughts??

Cheers

I have a similar problem - Not exactly the same as yours, but it boils down to me not getting done so I can relate. I always get a nice little 32 bar loop going with a nice melody, pad, chords, the whole sha-bang. I tweak everything, get all my EQ's in order, get everything sitting right in the mix, and then when it comes time to arrange the track I become completely uninspired, save all my work, and find something else to do.

I just hate hate HATE the arrangement part of production. It's so damn boring, monotonous, repetitive, and formulaic. Also, I'm sure I suck at it too, since this is when most artists get creative and inject life into their beats and whip out all their tricks. I just find arranging so unbelievably uninspiring unless I'm totally in love with the track I'm working with.

because you're making it more complicated than it is...in reality......start with a 2 minute song...2 minutes long

stop trying to figure out how fill these parts of your 6 minute epic

and chop chop chop, the song should excite you, not make you feel like it has no direction; or is so far away from ever being completed....

that's actually a really good perspective to take. my problem is I'm already thinking about how I'm going to break the ice and introduce the meat and potatoes when in reality maybe I should be producing in 2 minute blocks and taking it one "block" at a time. Mmmmmm...perspective.

Still, arrangement is such a f'in pain. I get so hung up on introducing the elements because it sounds so ty to just do standard white noise build ups or reversing the first note washed in reverb (backwards piano key style) or any of the other lame ass tricks. It's so difficult to be unique. Hoping soundtoys crystallizer can bring something new to the table.

I can stack drum samples, organize loops... especially program synths and fx all day. I've turned mixdowns into delicatessen infused rituals, I could tweak a mix all day no sweat, compare mixes endlessly.

I can't stand arranging. It feels like work.

Nice to see you around again Wiley!
Innocence Lost
I use to have the same problem but thankfully not anymore.
