Someone recently noticed that I say /əˈpɹɪ.ʃi.eɪt/ (uh-PRIH-she-ate) rather than /əˈpɹi.ʃi.eɪt/ (uh-PREE-she-ate) and started making fun of me for it.

Put the blame on my Pennsylvania parents.

It feels bizarre to say it the second way.

I'm pretty sure that unless I'm talking to someone who's not an English native speaker, I use the first.

Oh, parents and their weird pronunciations.

To this day I say something along the lines of /kən'neɪst mɪwk/ (kun-NEYST miwk) in Portuguese, instead of /kən'denst mɪwk/ (kun-DENST miwk) for "condensed milk", which would be standard in Brazil. People outside São Paulo often mock me for that. And, for the record, I know there's no "w" in milk, but that's how we aw row :p

make is incorrect, unnecessary or down right awkward. "make fun of" but not "make mock". Even though I'm ouside of São Paulo I'm trying not to mock you.
