out of all the genres of dance music, progressive trance has to be the best :happy2:
it seems to have had a pretty short window of production, and is pretty scarce compared to regular trance. made in a time when sasha and digweed were in their prime.
a good progressive trance track should be spacey - this is one of the defining characteristics of the genre i feel. there may be exceptions, but i can't think of any right now. definitely the style of dance music with the most aura. next a progressive trancer should be cold and icy - yet delicately uplifting. taking you on a considered journey, with a good intro and outro. with a trademark being the shimmering glitter effect.
the most important ingredient to the genre has to be the synth. after all, isn't a progressive house track only a light dusting of synth away from being a progressive trance track?
after careful consideration, my favourite is 'origin - refined intricacy'. i feel this is a bit of a hidden gem. the track is pure heaven - expertly executed to what i feel, and have outlined, a progressive trance track should be. special mention to the blasts of demonic outer-galactic bass in the break, amazing stuff.
i invite everyone with a spare 10 minutes and good pair of headphones to check it out.
if anyone has more stuff like this, particularly hidden gems, let it be known!
Innocence Lost
Wut about john askew, he's pure/
Innocence Lost
Imo, he's cutting edge smooth transition between light and hard, perfect balance. Generic yes, but it has a lot of energy and momentum. Just leave it simple, balla fo sho.
diffusion
What is pure and not, I don't know...
But I agree Progressive Trance when done right is ing good.
So here's my favourite, also an Origin production.
Incidentally, this was also the tune that opened up Progressive House for me. I went from here to Blackwatch and Quivver tunes ->Global Underground -> Nick Warren.. And just stayed there. :)
and clearly obviously eternal classic Tiesto's In Search Of Sunrise 2 and Paul Oakenfold's Great Wall and Another World mixes. WAyyyyyy ahead of its time. Oakie just slammed that in, and then kind of left trance for good after that. Ah yes and Forbidden Paradise 09... Still epic in my ears.
