Is there a synth like Massive? (pg. 2)

To the OP, I hope the videos below are helpful especially the first video. Not only is Serum a very powerful synth, it sounds good and has very powerful modulation which is the key to reeses. Not only is Serum a powerful synth but being able to load your own static samples (1 waveform) but it takes it a step further, allowing you to load multiple waveforms to create your own wavetable index, which can be modulated to get waveform morphing. There are also wavetable samples available for download for Serum. People have sample the wavetable indexes for other wavetable synths like NI Massive or Waves Codex and being able to use those wavetables/waveforms in Serum, you just have to Google for them. I have the NI Massive wavetable samples for Serum, so if you want them and have Serum I'd be more than happy to upload them for you, if you can't find them for download.

I definitely agree with you. My Virus TI is still my go-to and IMO, there was no other synth that was as versatile and sounded good too like the Virus TI. Then Serum came out and I was a little slow to embrace it but now I'm a big fan of it. Serum is so capable of damn near anything, I'm surprised it isn't as popular as it should be too. I still prefer the Virus TI (partially because of it being hardware/hands-on and partially because I love its sound), but if I didn't have the Virus TI then Serum would absolutely be my go-to workhorse synth.

It's a very straight-forward synth that is intuitive, the process of importing waves and creating your own wavetable index for morphing can be a little confusing at first IMO. The video below is an interview with Steve Duda (the creator of Serum) but is also the best tutorial video I've seen for Serum. He goes through the synth, explaining it, and also breaks down the process of importing sounds and the different ways to do it.

Below is another Serum tutorial, that goes through the synth and breaks down everything. It's not as good as the video above IMO, but I thought I'd include the link anyway just in case.

Definitely a very easy synth to pick up and learn, even without reading the manual.

Massive is an abstract maze in comparison.

Thanks chaps, am going thru your posts now.
So I bought Serum and if you are interested I have used it in my latest track in the WIP thread.

Perfect for those snarly sustained dnb bases I was after. I used three different bass sounds which I heavily edited and automated to make the mid bass in the track. Also used it for plucks and so on after spending a few hours making some patches.

I love this synth

i can't stand the routing and 1 filter deal. I also find the envollopes kinda glitchy.

And i want to punch that guy Seamless. What a twat/
TranceElevation
Ah so I'm not solo on that one. Would gladly kick him in the face.

Regarding Serum, whenever a video about it appears I skip. Got too many VA's already sounding alike. And for wavetable you got Zebra so don't see the point.

I don't get the single filter either, but there is another one in the FX section that can be used too. Obviously you can't pick serial/parallel though with is a bit of an odd design choice.

It is a bit over hyped though, which I've found with every synth I've ever bought.

In terms of unique sounds I think then Yamaha AN1X is hard to beat.

yeah it's overhyped no question, but it seems like every new softsynth these days is overhyped. there are so many ppl these days that seem to have major GAS for new software that hype is ridiculous, so when something worthwhile hits the market, they really go nuts and start frothing at the mouth over it. these are the days to make loot off of softsynths if you're a software developer.

the Yahama AN1X is classic for sure, i still love my JP8000 more than any softsynth based on its sound alone so i understand that.

i couldn't agree more with Clooney and TranceElevation on seamless, seamless gets on my nerves like a motherer. i'm not sure if it's his voice, the way he carries himself or the way he looks, probably all of the above. but steve duda gives out great info explaining things in serum in that interview, so if you can withstand the annoyance of seamless for the sake of listening to steve duda then it's worth it.
Looney4Clooney
he has an episode on success . Straight from his moms basement. The guy calls himself a professional , puts down actually established artists and makes the same ing sound in all his tutorials when it was already in the known. It wasn't like it was a secret at that point.

Its a good resource but his attitdue is .

Automated notch Eqing

or use a parametric peak filter....with a multi stage envel;ope driven cutoff modulator

zebra ;)

Looney4Clooney
which is notch filtering automated except to get the formant sound that one would want to sound like what i think the OP wants to sound, you are going to want to have at least 2 and automate those so ya, zebra aint gonna cut it.
soulstar606
im pretty sure you can make any and all of the popular dnb sounds in zebra......and then just automate it in your daw if yuo want...but still....with zebras mseg, you can have looping automations that last 128 seconds......and theres 4 of them...4 msegs

or loop for 128 units..that can be quarter notes, seconds or 16th notes
