No disrespect intended to our dearly departed Clovis, but:

| Clovis is actually getting some pretty sweet gigs these days, both in the US and Europe. The Plastic Love guys (Bas and Maheras) are too. |

| He tours in North America and Europe, continues to open/close for several of the leading acts in techno and house over the past 8 years, releases on several quality labels like Culprit, Adjunct Audio, Lessizmore, and then some. The guy is doing well and making solid music. |

I don't doubt it, but there are so many magnitudes of success within dance music production and DJ'ing that it doesn't make sense to mention some names in the same breath as others (I mean, you've got Clovis bookended on either side with John Tejada and Christopher Lawrence). Without taking anything away from Clovis and the above list of accolades, I understand this thread to be concerned with illustrious home grown names, not the acts that revolve around them; if that were the case, my own list would have been a much longer one. |

| I think we're discussing artists that either originally hail from or got their musical bearings in their respective cities, not ones who have since relocated there upon already achieving fame. There's a relevant difference between having your musical upbringing warp around your environment, and choosing that environment as a strategic career move. |

That's a special type of bull qualification right there.
Firstly the thread title is "Famous djs/producers in your area", not "did any famous people come from your home town/grow up on your street?"
Secondly, these aren't people passing through - LA their primary or even only residence. Some have lived here for over 10 years, some for longer than the place they grew up.
Take Diplo for example (another to add to the list). From Tennesee, but started making music in Philly, then got big in New York, so moved there, then did well in the UK and lived there, then settled in LA. So Tenesee gets the credit? Why not London because that's where he really made a name for himself? Or should it be NY because that was his first major recognition.
Thirdly, not really fair to say they move to LA because they made it. Deadmau5 was big all over the USA for a couple of years before making LA his home.
Gareth Emery made Concrete Angel and had his biggest successes in terms of track and DJ'ing once he'd moved to LA.
BT went to Berkeley, dropped out moved to LA for years, when it didn't work out her moved back to Maryland and was making electronic music. Legend has it he had no idea that his tracks were incredibly popular in the UK, got brought there by some DJ's where it all took off for him but then he moved back to LA and did the bulk of his later work here having lived here for nearly 20 years now. So is it London or Maryland or LA?
Daft Punk moved here in 1997. I could go on but I think you get the point? |

We can always make a separate thread of TA producers/djs that have become somewhat recognized. |

| Could someone explain to me at which point someone is famous? So many mentioned here I never heard of.... |
