It seems to me the recruitment sector is populated by more jokers than any other. The ones I've dealt with (usually cold calling me out of the blue) routinely demonstrate basic levels of ineptitude that would get them sacked in any job I've ever worked in.
Case study: I had some consultant from a company called Pyramid8 ring me up earlier in the year, trying to put me forward for some management role that came to nothing. That guy was at least competent, although I get the impression he was trying the industry-standard approach of throwing every candidate to the wall and seeing what would stick.
Fast forward to the start of this week and another guy from the same consultancy emails me out of nowhere claiming he has an exciting position that will be of relevance to my experience. There's no details, no salary, no location and a reference number that comes up with jack on their website. I ignore it because I'm not really looking for work at the moment, so he then calls me the following afternoon. I tell him to email me the job spec and if I'm interested I will be in touch. He emails me the spec and it's for a role way outside my range of experience. It's immediately clear this guy hasn't even read my CV. So I don't get in touch.
Over the next couple of days I keep getting voice mails on my phone from the same guy. Although he's already emailed me twice and spoke to me on the phone, his voice messages sound like he's never met me. One says "I've come across your details online and have a position I believe you'll be interested in." Then it's "I've been passed your CV by my colleague", then it's back to coming across my details online. The guy blatantly has no memory of talking to me.
Finally I get sick of it and respond to his email. I will quote the email exchange in full, because his response really does have to be seen to be believed:
Me:
| quote: | Dan,
Can you please stop calling me during my working hours. We have already spoken on the phone and I told you I would get in touch with you when I have the chance. The role below is considerably outside my range of experience as a cursory glance at my CV would tell you.
If you have any roles suitable for my experience level and matching the description of what I am seeking in the personal profile section of my CV I have no problem with you getting in touch, however I am not happy to be pestered repeatedly in working hours when you don't even appear to have read my CV and seem to have ignored/forgotten our previous conversation. |
Him:
| quote: | Hi Jack,
Firstly, I’ve not spoken to you before!!!! My colleague Louis has and he suggested I gave you a call as I have a couple of opportunities that you may be suitable for and that you might be interested in.
Secondly, you’re CV means nothing! It’s a one dimensional view on you and doesn’t articulate what you’re looking for and what your drivers are! I don’t work solely with candidates CV’s; I take time to speak with people and meet them so I can get to understand what they’re looking for.
Don’t worry I won’t contact you again likewise don’t contact me otherwise I’ll make your employer aware that you’re looking for work! |
The last part is a beauty. Although there's no real need to take it any further (and I'm half expecting a voice-mail from him tomorrow morning about how he's found my CV online and has a great role for me) I'm struggling to resist the temptation to forward this on to the MD of his company.
Has anyone else had to deal with this kind of clown? This may be the most egregious example I've yet encountered, but it's far from an isolated example of how useless they are at even the basics. |

| Did you ever think that maybe if you stop being a dick to people and calling them pests they won't give you hard time? |

| Only a truly flaccid like yourself would think this thread is about complaining about being given "a hard time". |

As a university lecturer (in a public institution, no less), this is something I don't really have to deal with, so I'm safe.
However, didn't you burn some bridges there? As much as I know the two of you don't get along, Woty said something quite true: Even if you don't want to hear from them (or him in particular) ever again, wouldn't it have been better if you (repeatedly) declined the offer in a more polite manner? Couldn't you just block his number/e-mail/whatever?
I understand your annoyance, as it's probably akin to having a girl hit on you while you're with your girlfriend or something, but talking someone down and saying they're "pestering" you might actually make things worse as he could try to "get revenge" if he feels he was insulted unfairly. Sure, he may have deserved it, but odds are that's not how he sees the situation, and he doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed.
It's not a matter of not being able to help, but being able to hurt you. |

i think what you are experiencing is profiting on people not having jobs. The actual business is placing you as quick as possible regardless if it fits. Thats how those things work. They don't give a . They don't work. Go to the source.
and you don't burn bridges at these places. You are essentially the same as a potential debt claim a collector might recoup. They will keep calling and emailing. The job is telemarketing +
what is your line of work ? |
