Definitely don't expect a watered down lineup..

Been pondering this since I bought the airline ticket on Saturday, but I hope Awakenings doesn't go the Timewarp NYC model for their lineup. Sure, for a multi-genre event, that lineup is absolutely stunning. But Awakenings (and Timewarp) aren't really multi-genre festivals. I want lots of dark, brooding techno -- not sure if acts like Martinez Brothers, Villalobos, and Frank and Tony fit that mold

Would rather have less huge/flavor-of-the-year names and more straight up techno names (guys like Rodhad, Luke Slater, Klock, etc). That style of music is what has propelled Awakenings into the event it is today -- hope the programming in NYC for the most part matches the vision they've always had.

But I'll have a great time regardless :toothless

It's funny both years of Time Warp the harder stuff went over much better than the tech house.

of course. The Time warp brand appeals to techno fans...it's no surprise the crowd eats up the darker techno sets and is more lukewarm about the tech-house acts.

Do tell Donnie, do tell.

I just can't help but be skeptical about the lineup being watered down. I mean after all they are a business and will need to recoup the money the put in plus they want to make a profit. As much as I would love to see Rodhad and etc. I highly doubt we will be getting an Electric Deluxe style lineup for this. Rodhad is veritably unknown to anyone outside of the dark hard techno (saw him at Movement and he wrecked my ). I would love to see Rod, Nina, and etc. but being the doubting Thomas that I am, I just don't see it. People call me a pessimist but I'd rather err on caution then get hyped up and be let down (IE Time Warps Armory issue yet again).

UCF theres a good chance I will go to this, it's about a 5 hour drive for me from the Cape, although driving through Rubberneckticut is probably the worst part of driving to NYC. I'll only have to take a paid vacation day on Monday, but I still need to check how much vacay time I've got stacked up to ensure my WMC trip isnt impacted. :whip:

I think the lineup will depend solely on the format. If they go 2 stages, you will surely see Adam Beyer and Friends on one stage (which is a big snooze these days in my opinon) and then most likely some more "pure" techno in Klock, Dettman, Speedy J, etc.

If they go with one stage it may be a crap shoot. They can go either way or mix and match which doesnt always make for the best outcome. If they want to keep it more for the casual listener they probably go Beyer, Ida, etc, just my thoughts anyway. I've not done an Awakenings single event but I've done the Awakenings Festival in the summer the past two years and the talent they bring is unmatched. I've done a number of festivals and to me there are none that are even close. So I would expect this to be top notch regardless but do remember it is new territory for them first time stateside, things dont always go perfect first time around.

Well so far at least, like i thought it could go one of two ways and they went very mainstream with Adam and Ida/Pan Pot. And hammerstein ballroom....not good.

What a sorry excuse with Valentine's Day. We get soft tech and tech house all year round

That flyer is h2blow for what I'd expect from Awakenings. Especially the venue.

I had my eye on making a trip for this, but it's a major let down imo.

And I love Adam and Ida.

I'll admit I'm disappointed and I'm FLTA's #1 Adam Beyer fan. Just wanted some harder more "techno" names. But...I'm going up there to NYC with a couple of friends and we're going to have a blast. Maybe it's not our ideal hard techno lineup but it IS going to a good time and I do have confidence that the production aspect will be top-notch.

So there's that. Have yet to go to Output so I get to knock that out the night before. Any trip to NYC with friends is always an amazing time.
