that clean sound is another abhorrent trait of modern trance... even airwave and joof do it. i actually think it is the defining factor to why modern trance sounds awful.
why does everything need to be so "tight", clean etc... even minimal has more character than this stuff.
i think flutlicht made it a thing for hard trance, then everyone else ran away with it and went silly with it.
flutlicht's tracks still sounded organic though, the acoustic quality (if we can call it that) has disappeared completely today. it's an awful sound.

I wouldnt call those great examples overcompression but if I were to pick one being more compressed than the other it would be carbine(the bass transient is rather fatiguing). Limiting and compression is generally fine in electronic dance music genres. Its a no no when it starts fatiguing your listening experience.
rubez
i was talking generally, you are talking out of your .
carbine has life in it, it sounds like music. the other track is a dull piece of .
modern trance should be taking a leaf out of progressive house's book... it used to be the two genres weren't that far apart. look at the state of it now, it's a joke.
they should be aspiring to sound like this - the sad thing is it's not out of their grasp, skill set wise.

I'm pretty sure MSZ knows what he's speaking about when it comes to production methods, lol.

Im not here to argue really, just dispel idiocy. If he cares so much why doesnt he contribute with his own tracks instead of crusading on a message board with self-entitlement.

How the heck did this thread become about progressive trance? No one has any thoughts on melbourne bangers?

if only your problem was over-compression :stongue:

I'm not sure why you've been trying to escalate this exchange to something far more hostile than it needs to be, as MSZ has been courteous and even-handed with you. Maybe there's a history here, but this could easily pass for a breezy technical conversation without you personalizing it in terms of whatever sensitivity you're bringing to this subject.
rubez
are you talking about? i think it's you that's smoking the crack son.
he was desperate to insert himself into the conversation, first by irrelevantly dissing my hair cut (attention seeking)
then he talks me having to give my own productions for inspection (where did i say i was producing, or could do better?!) in order to be credible enough to give an opinion on the subject.
courteous and even-handed indeed. he clearly thinks he's some sort of expert on the subject cause he s around with a DAW and VSTs, where as we were talking about this trend in the PROFESSIONAL modern trance scene... not amateur crap.

He gets a bit fussy when he hasn't had his dinner.

Not exactly sure why hes raging at me perhaps he misinterpreted my line of "contribute with your own tracks" I didnt mean that as to compare penis-length but to become to change you want. And yes, I know my tracks are not very good thats why I stopped and my soundcloud holds tracks from like 4 years ago, but that doesnt mean I dont hold much mixing-theory and technique in my pea-sized brain.
