Orlando, Florida (CNN)A gay nightclub here was the scene early Sunday of the worst terror attack in U.S. history since 9/11.
* 50 people were killed inside the Pulse club and at least 53 people were injured, police say.
* The gunman was Omar Mateen of Ft. Pierce, Florida, a law enforcement source told CNN.
* Orlando police shot and killed Mateen.
"It appears he was organized and well-prepared," Orlando Police Chief John Mina said early Sunday. The shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and "some type of (other) device on him."
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack on jihadi forums, but ISIS sympathizers have reacted by praising the attack on pro-Islamic State forums.
Officials, aided by the FBI, warned that a lengthy investigation was ahead given the number of victims and the scope of the violence.

The crazy thing is, I was just watching Real Sports on HBO in Atlantic City the night it happened. Part of the episode was about the AR-15 "sporter" rifle, which is actually an army-issued assault rifle, capable of firing automatic and semi-automatic. It's already sold over 12 million units to mostly "law-abiding" citizens in the US.
The kid that killed like 20 children back in 2012 used one, and so did the shooter in Orlando. Unfortunately this particular rifle is legally sold as a "sports" gun, and when it gets into the wrong hands, carnage ensues. Very sad.

And he's been suspended for making similar comments during the Paris attacks earlier this year, when Cranberry Juice (remember her?) lost a couple of friends.
If no TAs and loved ones were harmed, I'll have to let him be. If, however, one of us died or lost someone, we'll do our best to respect the pain of mourners and prevent them from having to deal with such callousness.
