Well, I say, Jack, that is certainly the best feedback you've ever given me on a mix, ever. Glad to finally get a positive response :p
And, more than that, I really did put a lot into this mix, and I'm glad you, Nick, and Luke, have all enjoyed it. I wish I had the time to mix it more than once, as, upon listening to the whole thing a few times, I definitely would change a few things. I'm really glad, though, that you guys all got the vibe I was going for. And, especially, all your comments on the programming, which I worked on for a while. Glad to hear some nice feedback :) |

Sorry for being so rubbish with feedback, I got through listening to everything a while ago just have failed miserably to get my thoughts down. Thanks for the positive comments from everyone who listened to mine!
My Mystery: Yeah really enjoyed this, prog breaks do really capture that hungover Sunday fog quite nicely. Not much to add to what others have said technically. Nice work.
Hamid: Really got the Scandinavian vibes coming through this. I felt quite transported to the shores of a fjord on a clear crisp cold Sunday morning. Don't agree with nicks comments on losing direction, I thought it worked well.
Lews: Very solid mix here, as Jack said the time you put in to prepping really shows. I didn't really notice any transitions which is obviously a good thing. Flow was spot on too. You clearly had a picture in your mind of what you wanted to do and I'd say you nailed it!
System-J: Another fine mix, Jack. I'm really digging this kind of sound at the moment and you seem to have a knack for finding tunes which really agree with me so listening to this was a real pleasure. I think you hit the brief spot on too.
Ziptnif: Ah Nicholas, when I saw this go up I was expecting big things and I wasnt disappointed. Some really good tunes put together very well. Its a shame its winter, I need to have a bbq so I can put this on at it ;)
Luke: Not much to add as to what others have said, but I enjoyed listening!
I havent managed to listen to all of Sand Leapers all the way through as I keep having arguments with Mixcloud. Any chance of reupping it somewhere? |

You can certainly play this a few months out, then! I have played this at several gatherings, it's great background music :D
Another successful challenge mix, maybe we could do another one later on this year. Maybe a Genre challenge, another Theme challenge, or some other idea if anyone has one. |

Ah the traditional English tradition of the Sunday Roast, at this time of year there is no better thing to do on a Sunday afternoon than share meat and wine with friends. Often starting slowly as everyone convienes in the pub of choice, can quickly get quite raucous before, almost as quickly as it started the foods gone and no-one wants to order another bottle so youre ejected back out into the cold to contemplate the already starting hangover and the fact that you have to get up for work in the morning.
Nightmares On Wax - Now Is The Time (Ashley Beedle Warbox Dubplate Special)
The Gene Dudley Band - Tiger Jaw
Bonobo - Kong
Sure Fire Soul Ensemble - Strollin Adams
The Quantic Soul Orchestra - Pushin' On
Breakestra - Lowdown Skank
Breakdown Brass - The Horseman
The Meters - Here Comes The Meterman
The Poets of Rhythm - Ham Gallery
The Soul Surfers - Doin The Rasklad
The Gene Dudley Group - Inspector Norse
Mary Clark - Take Me Im Yours
The Williams Fairy Brass Band - Pacific 202
Floating Points - For Marmish Pt II |
I knew there was something I'd forgotten to do - this is the only mix I haven't left feedback on yet. So I decided to do it the ultimate justice and stick it on whilst cooking my own Sunday roast (went for lamb, a bit unorthodox I know).
As Jan touched on, there's something extremely British about this mix. It perfectly encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday. Hungover, crap weather outside; you might as well regroup in the pub and lather something with gravy. And a blend of dub, blunted beats, funk and brass band covers of acid classics encapsulates it perfectly. Of all the mixes in this challenge (and everyone has done a great job, to be honest), this is probably the most original and really captures the feeling of a Sunday afternoon the most.
Now I'm off to the pub to watch the football. |

| Solid mix from you System-J. I didn't particularly love the first 25 minutes but things picked with the acid number and then you hit a groove. |

Thanks for the kind words, Dave. :)
Jack - wait, is lamb not an acceptable Sunday Roast? Not sure if you're being sarcastic with the 'unorthodox' comment there... Asking for a friend. :o |

I wouldn't say it's "unacceptable", but it's unusual. Beef, pork and chicken are the normal pub options. Although, I personally think that pub roasts are almost always overpriced and underwhelming bollocks. I've eaten numerous pub roasts with Marta, generally with the normal ingredients replaced with wanky, fiddly replacements to justify the £15 asking price. She said the best example she's eaten by far was the one made by my mother.
Like a lot of traditional meals in a lot of countries, the only way to experience it properly is to get someone to make it for you at home. |

Oh, God, well, yeah, pub options in general, really. The ONLY pub food that pubs can make better than at home, in my opinion, is fish-and-chips, due to their deep-frying abilities. I would assume any meal at home is better cooked - though, perhaps, I'm being overly optimistic with regards to people's cooking abilities. I would assume your mother could knock 'spoons out of the ing park, in terms of a Sunday Roast - and, really, any food not deep-fried. |

| We're not even talking about a Wetherspoons here, but the kind of hi-falutin' hipster gastropub that specialises in microbrewery craft ales. |

On a more relevant note, I think this challenge was so successful because people could use their own tunes. The thing about the Genre Challenges is that (unless you strike lucky) the players are forced to buy a load of new tracks, a lot of which they'll probably never use again and might not even particularly like. It can become less a creative challenge and more a chore.
So whatever we do next, I would suggest formulating challenges where the players can use the music they already like/own. |

Agreed completely. This was the most fun I've had in a long while. |
