What possible reason would someone have for driving around with a gun in their lap? (pg. 2)

Seriously though.
I have no idea why anyone would live where you have to carry around a gun and sleep with one under you pillow as a normal person, just living life. It's ing bonkers.
Also self inflicted though; I've probably had to get cash from an ATM at night maybe 3 times in the last 5 years, and I'd certainly not ing do it if I lived in the ghetto.
Really, there is no reason to drive around with a gun or even have a concealed weapon as a civilian. |

| I can't afford to move into a nice area in the city and I'm def not moving out to the country. I'd rather stay in the hood. I grew up on the eastside of Cleveland which was way worse than any hood in Atlanta. So I'm used to most of it... but there are some things you never get used to. Still, rather be in the hood in town than out in the boonies. I tried that once before and hated it. |

Sorry, I don't mean to come across as harsh, but that's just lame excuses.
I moved 7 times in one year because I was broke.
And there's nothing lower in terms of life standards that having to carry around a loaded gun for day to day life in case someone tries to jack and kill you.
There's always other areas in any givem city that are still cheap that don't have the imminent threat of death looming.
I'd prefer to live in the Styx than possibly have to gunfight my way out of a drive through atm.
And dizzy, no offense but you have at least 20k worth of studio equipment and a $1500 gun so I don't think you're so broke that you can't afford 100 more a month for a less medieval life lol |

Used to ride my bike with a glock back in the day. Never shot anyone but used it once to crack someone over the head.
It was a crackhead. |

No offense taken. We've both been on these forums for nearly 15 years and I enjoy your posts, so I'm not going to get upset or take any of this personally.
My gun was $500 though and my studio equipment was around $2500 cuz I bought it all used. But yeah your point remains the same, the studio equipment was stuff I bought over years. I sold the Pulse 2 so this is what I have now...
$700 - Moog Sub Phatty (bought new but it was on clearance)
$800 - Virus Polar (bought used, the lcd screen was busted and unusable)
$300 - JP8000 (bought used on craigslist)
$450 - Yamaha HS-7 (bought during a "buy one, get one half off" sale)
$200 - Focusrite
I've been really broke lately cuz I was let go from my job where I worked for 10 years, they got rid of me and my entire dept. I didn't have a job for a little over 4 months until I finally found a new job that I started a couple weeks ago.
Me and my wife moved from midtown to the suburbs awhile back, we stayed in the burbs for 4 years and I hated it. I'm just a city person but the only places in the city we can afford are cheap for a reason. I'm not complaining, I'm just giving the OP an honest answer to his question. Yeah we live in a bad neighborhood but we're just blocks away from a lot of fun areas like Piedmont Park and a lot of the places that make Atlanta unique. I want to be as close to the stuff I enjoy as possible, but this is the best I can do. I hated the suburbs around Atlanta, boring as hell to me. Besides I was born and raised in a much worse area than I live now. But for self defense, you need to carry for your own good.
I know a lot of our neighbors and I like them a lot, the majority of them are really good people. But there are some bad apples too. Like hearing somebody fire off a fully-automatic assault rifle of some sort on NYE as celebration? Only in the hood, I don't even know how they got their hands on a fully-auto rifle but it sounded crazy Luckily I've only heard that being used that one time, in celebration. So all the regular gunshots I hear at night are semi-autos.
I've only had to call the cops one time around 10 years ago, somebody was trying to break into our apartment through the door on our porch (1st floor). I called 911 and waited but eventually had to go out and confront him. Luckily for me it was just some drunk that could barely stand, but he had a crowbar with him. I told him to get his ass far away from our place. He left and the cops never came. So you can't rely on law enforcement. Yes you should call them and wait for them if possible, but you need to be prepared to protect yourself and your girl if it comes down to it. I hope to God I never have to shoot a human being ever in my life. But if somebody's in our place and doesn't leave at the sight of the gun, if he were to advance then I'd have no choice but to drop him. It's not just me that I'm protecting but my wife too. That'd be terrible, something that would bother me, but I won't allow anyone to harm my wife. I'd unload on them as soon as I knew the gun didn't intimidate them... at that point you know you have to put several rounds in their torso. Anyone who disagrees with that either lives a very sheltered life cuz some people just don't give a . A sane robber will bail out of your place at the sight of the gun and I hope it never goes beyond that. |

I get it, and that's rough, losing your job and then not having a solid income basically means you got to stay put until you can get out. You got great deals on the kit though!!!
Honestly, I got the out of living in a fairly rough part of london and haven't looked back, but I did it at a time when I didn't have to worry too much about responsibility and it's difficult when you're older.
I get needing a gun when the cops aren't there, I suppose where I live now, you call and get 7 cars a chopper within minutes if you tell them someone is breaking in. Then again, some crackhead broke in to my business the other night while it was empty. I call the county sheriff when i find out the next morning and they just could not be bothered to check out what had happened. They never came.
I know what you mean about living downtown; I can't do the burbs. I have to be right in the thick of it so you always got to make some sacrifices. |

Even though I own and carry a gun, I'm not a gun/2nd amendment nut. If tomorrow the government said "we're taking everyone's guns", I'd be ok with it. I'd just want a reimbursement for it lol.
P.S. Much respect to DJ Rann ;) |
