I live in the eastside of Atlanta, just outside of downtown so I live in the hood. I take my Springfield XDM 9mm almost every time I go out after dark. There are a lot of gunshots on my street at night, especially weekends.
I put my gun in my lap anytime I go to a drive-up ATM after dark. Sometimes I hold it with my right hand, I hold it low and keep it pointed at the open window. Anytime you get jacked it's cuz they got the drop on you, element of surprise. So yeah I definitely stay alert n ready whenever I'm doing something at night that probably isn't the best idea. Aside from that I don't drive around with it on my lap. If I'm in my neighborhood or any sketchy area I keep it on the passengers seat for easy access, otherwise I keep it in the holster. I also sleep with it within reach of my pillow, 19 round mag with hollow points and a 29 round mag with full metal jacket.
If I lived in a safe area then I wouldn't even own a gun probably. |

Honestly I can't imagine carrying a load gun like that and definitely not that close to my boys.
