Has anyone noticed the Beatport Top 100...

...isn't nearly as clogged with awful EDM these days?

There's still a whole lotta e in there, granted, but it's going back to being populated by the biggest labels in actual dance music (Drumcode, Diynamic, Kompakt, Suara, etc.)

It's not nearly as popular in this country as it is Stateside, and I never go anywhere near any venue that plays the stuff, but does this mean the EDM bubble has well and truly burst? I've read a few articles about how major label investment has dried up, but is this the more tangible knock-on effect of DJ Bro no longer going out and buying the tunes to pollute the dancefloor of his local meat market?

IMO those labels you mentioned are like the EDM version of the genre their released tracks say they are. also a lot of the EDM bros have made their way into the local 'underground' clubs here for 'YOLO deep house' drumcode techno and the toronto favourite: generic tech house.

this again is my opinion but those big EDM guys may sell on iTunes? but i honestly think the people that listen to that are the ones who download their songs illegally

Yeah i think you are right....i check back there every once in awhile and i see people like jay lumen , dj koze, pig & dan among others in the top ten and i think it has to do with the people running beatport being into that stuff as well as far as giving these artist exposure... i honestly dont mind edm like some of you guys but they do a good job at having variety .

I knew someone would immediately pipe up with that, but at least spare the good name of Kompakt.

Let's be realistic. These are the Top 100 selling tracks on the biggest DJing download platform. You're not going to get Underground Resistance in there. But the Top 100 is at least now fairly analogous to, say, the RA Top 100 DJs. You've got the likes of John Talabot, Joris Voorn, Sasha, Kolsch, Maceo Plex, Loco Dice, Stephan Bodzin, Rodriguez Jr, Sailor & I and Pan-Pot on there all at once. Even six months ago that didn't seem likely.

And yes, most EDM fans probably don't shop on Beatport, but the fact EDM still took over the front page for a while and now seems to have almost vanished has to be indicative of something. Is the next trend, as you imply, some mass immigration as all the YOLO tards move on to fist-pumping to ditchwater-dull Drumcode fare?
planetaryplayer
i think they move first to deep house with 'HUGE DROPS' and guys like joris voorn, pleasurekraft. but now we have local nights here called 'the kids want techno' that don't play any techno. even at a ben klock show not too long ago it was crowded with a bunch of people who had no idea what techno was just standing taking photos. mass movement? perhaps not, certainly noticeable and unfavourable

before the edm wave i seen people fist bumping to adam beyers china girl & radio slaves grindhouse this is no different, whether its bleeps or super saw's people will rock to the in sound.

Maybe Drumcode are the new EDM?
SYSTEM-J
I would settle for dance music raising its bar so that Drumcode is as bad as it can get.

Those Drumcode remixes of Moby littered throughout the Top 100 are ing awful.

I think all the wannabes who took up djing when the EDM craze hit have promptly (and rightfully) given up, hence their collective purchasing decisions no longer manifest as a Top 100 of complete .

thats not really the point. more douchebags are filtering down into the clubs, and now all the bookings are . entry level tech house.

investigated the top 100, and to think i used to like some of maceo's tracks. WOW was his current beatport stuff . .

if i mention this clubs by name my post will be deleted LOL. such as it was in the TOTA section after an article i posted about the robert hood show. i envy your UK scene.

Ever since the crosstown rebels and hot creations blow up its not uncommon to find the odd house hit up there in the top ten, but it is more common as of recently. Only saying that because I was on there the other day and was pleasantly surprised to see green velvet at the #1 spot.

At the same time it is a doubled edged sword. At least in ny the parties aren't as good any more, too many bros.
